MONEY ART: TUPAC SHAKUR AND THE NOTORIOUS BIG (BIGGIE SMALLS) ACRYLIC PAINTING

Hello friends, I hope you are very well, I want to share with you a new work done with acrylic paint on devalued bills. These are the legends of Rap Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls, two of the musicians of this genre who at the time were representatives of the Hip Hop movement, unfortunately their lives ended in a traumatic way, leaving a trail of violence between gangs. However, I think that his contribution to music was great, releasing very good songs that became true legends. Without anything else to add, I leave you with the step by step of my painting!

Hola amigos, espero que se encuentren muy bien, quiero compartir con ustedes un nuevo trabajo realizado con pintura acrílica sobre billetes devaluados. Se trata de las leyendas del Rap Tupac Shakur y Biggie Smalls, dos de los músicos de este género que en su momento fueron representantes del movimiento del Hip Hop, lamentablemente sus vidas terminaron de forma traumática dejando un rastro de violencia entre pandillas. Sin embargo, pienso que su aporte a la música fue grandioso, sacando temas muy buenos que se convirtieron en verdaderas leyendas. Sin más nada que agregar, los dejo con el paso a paso de mi pintura!

PROCESS

I started by choosing the banknotes, I tried to find the ones that were less damaged and that the ink they used to print allows the paintings to be better displayed. Then I started doing the sketches using a 4B pencil to make it easier to visualize when painting, first I started with Tupac and then with Biggie Smalls.

Comencé escogiendo los billetes, traté de encontrar los que estuvieran menos estropeados y que la tinta que usaron para imprimir permita que las pinturas se visualicen mejor. Después comencé a hacer los bocetos usando un lápiz 4B para que fuera más fácil de visualizar al momento de pintar, primero comencé con Tupac y luego con Biggie Smalls.

I used for the first layer of color on the skin of the face the colors white, brown and orange, the orange is to give a reddish tone to the skin with the reflection of light. To paint I use a very fine brush since the drawing is not large and more precision is needed so that the details of the face can flow without any problem. I only use the black color in the most specific cases, on the contrary I like to mix the colors until I get dark tones and thus make a better degradation.

Utilicé para la primera capa de color en la piel del rostro los colores blanco, café y naranja, el naranja es para darle un tono rojizo a la piel con el reflejo de la luz. Para pintar utilizo un pincel muy fino ya que el dibujo no es grande y se necesita más precisión para que los detalles del rostro puedan fluir sin problema alguno. El color negro lo utilizo solamente en los casos más concretos, por el contrario me gusta mezclar los colores hasta sacar tonos oscuros y así hacer una mejor degradación

Next I began to outline all the details of the face using an even finer brush than the previous one, it is very useful for small parts such as the eyes and eyelids and also paint the eyebrows and eyelashes. I also did all the details regarding the light reflections on the entire face, so that there can be a contrast that can make the face stand out better. Finally, paint the visible garments such as the sweater and the cap.

Seguidamente comencé a deliniear todos los detalles del rostro usando un pincel todavía más fino que el anterior, es muy últil para partes pequeñas como los ojos y los párpados y pintar tambien las cejas y pestañas. Tambien hice todos los detalles en cuanto a los reflejos de luz en todo el rostro, para que pueda haber un contraste que pueda hacer notar mejor el rostro. Por último pinte las prendas visibles como es el sueter y la gorra.

Then it was the turn of the great Biggie Smalls, as with Tupac I used the same color palette, only the skin tone was a little darker. Next I began to outline using the same technique as before, only leaving those parts that will later be lightened using another mixture. I outlined most of the face and the rest was just applying details.

Luego fue el turno del gran Biggie Smalls, al igual que con Tupac utilicé la misma paleta de colores, solo que un poco más oscuro el tono de piel. Seguidamente comencé a delinear usando la misma técnica anterior, solamente dejando aquellas partes que luego serán aclaradas usando otra mezcla. Delinié toda la mayor parte del rostro y el resto fue solo aplicar detalles.

Following the previous process, I apply a second layer of paint, already lightening towards the center of the face. When the photograph was taken, the reflection of light was concentrated mostly in the center of the face. At the end the illuminated parts are painted with white color. Finally I make the characteristic crown of Biggie Smalls and thus I finish both drawings.

Siguiendo el proceso anterior aplico una segunda capa de pintura ya aclarando hacia el centro del rostro, cuando tomaron la fotografía el reflejo de luz se concentró en su mayor parte en el centro del rostro. Al final las partes iluminadas son pintadas con color blanco. Por último hago la corona característica de Biggie Smalls y así finalizo ambos dibujos.

The last step was to prepare a surface where to fix the paints, I used a piece of MDF wood 20 centimeters on each side, I made the measurements to locate each bill and then I covered the places that I did not need to paint with adhesive tape. Then I painted all the wood using cold black paint, finally I fixed each bill using glue and this painting was finished with the legends of 90s Rap.

El último paso fue preparar una superficie donde fijar las pinturas, utilicé un retazo de madera MDF de 20 centímetros por cada lado, hice las mediciones para ubicar a cada billete y luego cubrí con cinta adhesiva los lugares que no necesitaba pintar. Después pinté toda la madera usando pintura al frío de color negro, por último fijé cada billetes utilizando pegamento y así quedó finalizado este cuadro con las leyendas del Rap de los 90.

FINAL WORK

When fixing the bills I realized that I should use a more instantaneous and stronger glue because in the bill where I made Biggie Smalls there is a fold in the middle that I could not make it disappear. I was also very satisfied with the results. Did you know these Rap legends? On Netflix there is a series that explores the latest events, things that were forgotten and that the powerful did not allow to be investigated. Even so, their music continues to play and is more current than ever, they started as good friends, helped each other and then ended up being enemies to the death. Al fijar los billetes me di cuenta que debo utilizar un pegamento más instantáneo y fuerte porque en el billete donde hice a Biggie Smalls se ve en la mitad un doblez que me fue imposible hacer que desapareciera. De igual forma quedé muy conforme con los resultados. Conocías a estas leyendas del Rap? En Netflix hay una serie que explora los últimos acontecimientos, cosas que quedaron en el olvido y que los poderosos no dejaron que se investigaran. Aún así su música sigue sonando y está más vigente que nunca, comenzaron como buenos amigos, se ayudaron y luego terminaron siendo enemigos hasta la muerte. Este ha sido mi aporte de hoy, espero que les haya gustado, me despido hasta una nueva oportunidad. sigan dibujando!
