A Subjective Music Recap of 2025 in a Punk/Hardcore Spirit

My nickname @fat.music kind of obligates me. I haven’t written anything about music in ages — so I decided to fix that. It’ll be short, but hopefully to the point. Fair warning: I listen to music rooted in punk rock, so it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. No particular order — let’s go.

Albums that kept me alive in 2025:

Turnstile – Never Enough (2025) Turnstile doing what they always do: a bit of melody, a bit of weirdness, a bit of “what am I even listening to?”, but in the best possible way. Perfect for lifting your mood — or pretty much anything.

Scowl – Are We All Angels (2025) Scowl keep exploring their eclectic vibe, but still hold onto that hardcore edge. A cool mix that goes down surprisingly smooth.

Booze & Glory – Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (2025) Solid as always, built on anthems. If you like melodic punk with a street feel, it’s dangerously easy to fall in love with this one.

The Baboon Show – Don’t Don’t Don’t (2025) Energy, energy, and more energy. The Baboon Show simply don’t miss — still pure joy in musical form.

Films & series that stuck with me somehow

From this year… honestly? Nothing comes to mind. But since it feels right to recommend something, here are two titles that are still worth catching up on if you're into music history and the ways punk shaped the wider scene.

Series: Pistol (2022) Short, dirty, chaotic — just as a Sex Pistols story should be.

Film: Idź pod prąd (2024) Stylized, documentary-ish, engaging. Even if you’re not into punk, it’s hard to look away.

A music project that deserves its own shout-out

Codefendants – This Is Crime Wave (2023) Punk, hip-hop, a bit of cabaret, a bit of street grit. A total mash-up that shouldn’t work — and yet it works brilliantly.

And finally, something outside punk rock but close in spirit

A band from Papua New Guinea: Darkaside – Decade of Crisis (2025) Not punk, but if you like music with emotion, grit, and weight — there’s plenty to love here. A really interesting one, especially if you feel like widening your horizons.
