Sexy legs on a rapeseed field.

Phasia aurigera fly 4.jpg

I passed this field a few times during my long autumn walks this year. It is not a normal time for rapeseed to bloom (the yellow flowers), but I guess the seeds that managed to fall to the ground felt lucky and started to grow without waiting for spring.
It did pay off, I guess, if you count all the insects that managed to find food before winter. And of course pollination.. seeds... and the cycle starts over.

During colder days, there were not many buggers around. But on a sunny day, I could see all the little flying fellas being very busy. Flies, bees, beetles, butterflies... you name it.

This little fatty one caught my attention, though. I am still not sure if I managed to ID it correctly, but it seemed the closest to what Uncle Google was showing me.

Fatty body with much wider than normal fly or wasp wings. Quite a cutie. There were quite a few of them around, sharing flowers with mostly bees. I managed to get closer to a few, and they were not shy. I could hold a flower a couple of times and turn to get a better angle. But as soon as the food was gone, they would fly away to another flower.

And look at those long legs and funny feet :)

Beautifull golden-brown wings with daker edges.

On a cold winter day, a sunny day and a plant with beautiful flowers is enough for insects to appear, dear friend @ewkaw
I love your macro shots, you can see every detail of this insect.
I take this opportunity to wish you a happy start to the week.

Well.. cold winter day in Poland usually means temperatures below 0 and snow. No flowers then and probably hardly any insects... if any :) It was still a bit warmer than this and all the little guys were out.
Have a great weekend!

Great macro shots there. The wings look beautiful. The long claw legs seem funny on that chubby body.
Lovely!

You captured all the details. Design of that insect thought provokingly inspiring to think about the, so detailed nature of this mysterious existence called life.
