School dance in honor of the May Cross

Un saludo mi querida comunidad, dentro de las actividades culturales del mes de mayo más tradicional de nuestro folklore tenemos el baile en honor a la santísima cruz de mayo. Esto se realizó el viernes en las instalaciones de nuestro colegio aunque la fecha exacta de su celebración es el 3 de mayo.

Greetings my dear community, within the cultural activities of the most traditional month of May of our folklore we have the dance in honor of the Holy Cross of May. This took place on Friday in the facilities of our school although the exact date of its celebration is May 3.

Este baile para hacerle honor a la cruz en el altar, que tiene forma de escalera y se adorna con muchas flores de diferentes colores, prevalece el tradicional baile de joropo con una coreografía en particular donde cada pareja toma la cruz por uno de sus extremos y la coloca en cada peldaño de la escalera hasta que completen los 7 peldaños, esto se llama subir la cruz.

This dance to honor the cross on the altar, which has the shape of a ladder and is decorated with many flowers of different colors, prevails the traditional joropo dance with a particular choreography where each couple takes the cross by one of its ends and places it on each step of the ladder until they complete the 7 steps, this is called “subir la cruz” (climbing the cross).

Luego de la misma manera se baja la cruz. Después de esto se prende un baile de joropo dónde todos los asistentes pueden participar en el baile. Seguidamente se compartieron algunos dulces y bebidas tradicionales en especial el cuarto de mango 🥭. Siempre dejamos la mayoría de las actividades culturales para los días viernes porque es el día donde más contamos con la participación de los padres y representante, algo que a nuestros muchachos les encanta sentir el apoyo de sus papás. Así que ese día nuestra escuela se llena de música y alegría.

Then the cross is lowered in the same way. After this a joropo dance is lit where all attendees can participate in the dance. Afterwards some traditional sweets and drinks were shared, especially the “cuarto de mango” 🥭. We always leave most of the cultural activities for Fridays because it is the day where we count more on the participation of parents and representatives, something that our kids love to feel the support of their parents. So on that day our school is filled with music and joy.

Para nosotros es muy importante involucrar y enseñar a nuestros jóvenes todo lo referente a las celebraciones que forman parte de las tradiciones y costumbres en Venezuela y la cruz de mayo y una de ellas, la cual se celebra en todas las instituciones educativas

For us it is very important to involve and teach our young people everything related to the celebrations that are part of the traditions and customs in Venezuela and the May cross is one of them, which is celebrated in all educational institutions.
