Saludos apreciados lectores hoy traigo un relato personal enfocado en anhelos lanzados al viento y que por alguna razón la vida otorga.
Greetings dear readers, today I bring you a personal story focused on longings thrown to the wind and that for some reason life grants.
Desde el 2020 se despertó en mí el deseo de viajar, tiempos cuando inicié con mis relatos en Hive, y recuerdo que en algún concurso preguntaban ¿Dónde y cómo te visualizas en cinco años?, el 1er país en el que pensé fue Brasil, nunca Cuba ni Colombia, pero fueron los que después de 5 años se manifestaron, impulsada desde el 2017 por un proceso de autodescubrimiento a través la práctica del tambor afrovenezolano, disciplina en la que fui reconociendo la diversidad cultural y formas expresivas de nuestro país Venezuela.
Since 2020 the desire to travel was awakened in me, times when I started with my stories in Hive, and I remember that in some contest they asked Where and how do you visualize yourself in five years, the 1st country I thought of was Brazil, never Cuba or Colombia, but they were the ones that after 5 years manifested themselves, driven since 2017 by a process of self-discovery through the practice of Afro-Venezuelan drumming, discipline in which I was recognizing the cultural diversity and expressive forms of our country Venezuela.
El tambor ha sido un instrumento que me ha impulsado a experimentar y reconocer quien soy a través de su ejecución, es este un mensajero de la expresión viva de civilizaciones que en un pasado se intentó silenciar debido al poder de conexión e integración con todo lo existente, un pulso natural que expande la conciencia.
The drum has been an instrument that has pushed me to experience and recognize who I am through its execution, it is a messenger of the living expression of civilizations that in the past tried to be silenced due to the power of connection and integration with all that exists, a natural pulse that expands the consciousness.
Entonces gracias al tambor y con mujeres afines, @herenciamujertambor, en el 2025 nos fuimos a Santiago de Cuba Aquí lo que me traje donde coincidimos con la agrupación “Palma Alfricana” @palmaafricanabaq de Colombia – Barraquilla, recibiendo de su directora Carmen Meléndez la invitación para en el mes de septiembre asistir al XXXI festival internacional de danzas folclóricas de la confraternidad convivencia y salud mental @festivaldelaconfraternidadbaq.
So thanks to the drum and with like-minded women, @herenciamujertambor, in 2025 we went to Santiago de Cuba Here what I brought back where we met the group “Palma Alfricana” @palmaafricanabaq from Colombia - Barraquilla, receiving from its director Carmen Meléndez the invitation to attend the XXXI international festival of folkloric dances of the confraternity coexistence and mental health @festivaldelaconfraternidadbaq in September.
Jueves 11 emprendimos vuelo | Thursday 11 we took flight
Previo al viaje recibimos el tema musical “Ay mi tamborero” de “La Carmen” @lacarmenmusic, hija de la anfitriona, esta canción la versionamos al estilo afrovenezolano con golpe de Aragua - Chuao, para compartirla con su cantautora el día de inauguración del festival miércoles 10/11/25, evento al que no llegamos debido a las dificultades económicas y fronterizas que se viven en nuestro país. Aun así, a través de alianzas y apoyo internacional de personas interesadas en nuestro proyecto, obtuvimos el financiamiento para los boletos y logística.
Prior to the trip we received the song “Ay mi tamborero ” from “La Carmen ” @lacarmenmusic, daughter of the hostess, we covered this song in Afro-Venezuelan style with a beat from Aragua - Chuao, to share it with the singer-songwriter on the opening day of the festival Wednesday 10/11/25, an event we did not make it to due to the economic and border difficulties in our country. Even so, through alliances and international support from people interested in our project, we obtained the financing for the tickets and logistics.
El presupuesto para este viaje fue moderado, haciéndose el traslado por escala de forma terrestre Caracas - Maiquetía, aérea Maiquetía a Maracaibo.
The budget for this trip was moderate, and the transfer was made by land Caracas - Maiquetia, air Maiquetia to Maracaibo.
Aterrizando nos recibió un transporte con nuestra ataché, una linda guajirita y su chófer enviados por el equipo organizador del festival, quienes fueron nuestros custodios en todo el trayecto, hasta el límite Venezuela – Colombia.
Upon landing, we were met by a transport with our ataché, a pretty guajirita and her driver sent by the festival's organizing team, who were our guardians all the way to the Venezuela-Colombia border.
Aquí estuvimos en manada para resguardarnos y trasladarnos seguras con nuestras pertenencias, siendo un rápido procedimiento que me generaba mucha tensión.
Here we were in a herd to take shelter and move safely with our belongings, being a quick procedure that generated a lot of tension for me.
Una vez en frontera pasamos por migración, conociendo a nuestro amable chofer quien nos brindó un traslado seguro y acogedor a Barranquilla. Desde entonces las paradas fueron cortas, específicamente para autorregularnos, teniendo muchas horas de camino y retraso por las múltiples alcabalas, en estos trayectos pude apreciar el contraste de nuestras naturaleza y culturas, imaginando los riesgos que en carreteras y fronteras se pueden experimentar.
Once at the border we passed through immigration, meeting our friendly driver who gave us a safe and welcoming transfer to Barranquilla. Since then the stops were short, specifically to regulate ourselves, having many hours of road and delay by the multiple alcabalas, in these journeys I could appreciate the contrast of our nature and cultures, imagining the risks that can be experienced on roads and borders.
Nuestra productora y el chofer siempre estuvieron atentos para cubrir nuestras necesidades, él con emoción nos contaba sobre paraderos emblemáticos y gastronomía colombianos, con este preámbulo íbamos sobre la hora de almuerzo dirigiéndonos a un local de comida típica, donde empecé a amar el agua panela y café colombiano con esencia a coco.
Our producer and the driver were always attentive to meet our needs, he excitedly told us about emblematic stops and Colombian cuisine, with this preamble we were going about lunchtime heading to a typical food place, where I began to love the panela water and Colombian coffee with coconut essence.
El chofer nos sugirió que antes de volver teníamos que visitar el monumento de Shakira, entonces con la aprobación de nuestra productora después de tanta carretera, antes de llegar al hospedaje nos llevó al monumento, donde rápidamente tomamos fotos para irnos directo al hotel ubicado en una zona favorecida de Barraquilla, allí descargamos equipaje y reposamos.
The driver suggested that before returning we had to visit the monument of Shakira, so with the approval of our producer after so much road, before arriving at the lodge took us to the monument, where we quickly took pictures to go straight to the hotel located in a favored area of Barraquilla, there we unloaded luggage and rested.
Viernes 12 se activó la agenda | Friday 12 the agenda was activated
Luego del agradable desayuno, abordamos el transporte que nos dirigió a “La Fábrica de la Cultura - Universidad de las Artes” donde ofrecimos un taller de danzas y tambores afro venezolanos a estudiantes del 2do año de danza tradicional, la 2da presentación fue en el auditorio central del mismo espacio, donde abrazamos a nuestra anfitriona Carmen Meléndez.
After a nice breakfast, we boarded the transport that took us to “La Fábrica de la Cultura - Universidad de las Artes” where we offered a workshop of Afro-Venezuelan dances and drums to students of the 2nd year of traditional dance, the 2nd presentation was in the central auditorium of the same space, where we embraced our hostess Carmen Meléndez.
Culminando aquí, fuimos a cenar y abordamos el transporte con los instrumentos dirigiéndonos a otra localidad, compartiendo el trayecto con bailares y músicos de Perú, Chile y Colombia.
After that, we went to dinner and boarded the transport with the instruments to another location, sharing the journey with dancers and musicians from Peru, Chile and Colombia.
Esta 3era muestra fue en una casa cultural dirigida por una comunidad católica quienes hacen de la cultura su vida a plenitud. Allí se presentó primero la agrupación Palma Africana, cerrando nosotras con nuestro repertorio, siendo luego acompañadas al hospedaje para descansar.
This 3rd show was in a cultural house run by a catholic community who make culture their life to the fullest. There the group Palma Africana performed first, and we closed with our repertoire, and then we were accompanied to the lodge to rest.
Sábado 13 el arte nos une | Saturday 13 art unites us
Después del desayuno y rica tertulias, subimos al transporte con otros artistas dirigiéndonos a la comunidad "Puerto Colombia", lugar donde hace vida la agrupación Palma Africana. Aquí nos recibió muy emocionado Daifre bailarín que conocimos en Cuba, quien nos presentó el fenomenal anfiteatro natural realizado en el patio de su casa donde realizaríamos la convivencia cultural.
After breakfast and rich gatherings, we boarded the transport with other artists heading to the community “Puerto Colombia”, where the group “Palma Africana” lives. Here we were greeted very excited by Daifre, a dancer we met in Cuba, who introduced us to the phenomenal natural amphitheater built in the courtyard of his house where we would perform the cultural coexistence.
Daifre en conjunto con su comunidad promueve danzas y manifestaciones tradicionales colombianas, en su anfiteatro integra a niños y adultos del sector para incentivarlos a vivir en función de las artes, cuyo objetivo es la transformación social, al percibir este extraordinario proyecto, fue cuando me hizo mucho más sentido el lema del festival confraternidad convivencia y salud mental
Daifre together with its community promotes dances and traditional Colombian manifestations, in its amphitheater it integrates children and adults of the sector to encourage them to live according to the arts, whose objective is social transformation, when I perceived this extraordinary project, it was when the motto of the festival confraternity, coexistence and mental health made much more sense to me.
Por esta sencilla y fraternal convivencia entre danzas y músicas autóctonas de todos los presentes, agradecí a la vida por colocarme en el lugar y con la gente donde me reconozco como parte de una herencia cultural sin límites con lo que podemos generar cambios saludables en la sociedad.
For this simple and fraternal coexistence between dances and indigenous music of all those present, I thanked life for placing me in the place and with the people where I recognize myself as part of a cultural heritage without limits with which we can generate healthy changes in society.
Aquí también tuvimos la dicha de compartir con la persona responsable de nuestro viaje a Barranquilla, ella una mujer fans enamorada de nuestro tema musical “todas somos una”, es una trabajadora incansable por los derechos humanos, convencida de que las artes en conjunto con el pueblo son la vía inequívoca para la cultura organizada, afectiva, cooperativa y dispuesta para la promoción y empoderamiento de valores.
Here we also had the joy of sharing with the person responsible for our trip to Barranquilla, she is a fan woman in love with our musical theme “we are all one”, she is a tireless worker for human rights, convinced that the arts together with the people are the unequivocal way for organized, affective, cooperative culture and willing to promote and empower values.
A un día de volver a Venezuela, nuestra Ada madrina nos invitó a guardar los instrumentos y compartir con ella y su familia en un local privado donde cantamos, bailamos, degustamos algunos refrigerios y bebidas. Ya caída la noche se despidió en gratitud y alegría enviándonos resguardadas al hospedaje.
One day before returning to Venezuela, our Ada godmother invited us to keep the instruments and share with her and her family in a private place where we sang, danced, tasted some snacks and drinks. At nightfall she said goodbye in gratitude and joy, sending us back to our lodging.
Llegando al hotel ayudamos a desembarcar, luego tuvimos la autorización para relajarnos, fue así como convidé a tres compañeras para visitar la tiendita “Xoxo” que estaba frente al hotel, allí sentadas con aperitivos compartimos nuestra experiencia y naturaleza femenina, uniéndose otras compañeras, creándose una graciosísima tertulia nocturna, donde tuvimos la oportunidad de conocernos un poco más, ya que con 8 años como agrupación nunca habíamos intimado más allá de una clase de percusión o una presentación, tiempo que honré y sé que así lo sintieron ellas.
Arriving at the hotel we helped to disembark, then we had the authorization to relax, so I invited three companions to visit the little shop “Xoxo” that was in front of the hotel, there sitting with snacks we shared our experience and feminine nature, other companions joined us, creating a very funny evening get-together, where we had the opportunity to know each other a little more, since with 8 years as a group we had never been intimate beyond a percussion class or a presentation, time that I honored and I know that they felt it that way.
Domingo 14 día del retorno y contemplación | Sunday 14 day of return and contemplation
Despertamos muy temprano para recibir nuestro desayuno y montar maletas en el transporte guiado por nuestro chofer estrella quien volvió para llevarnos a la frontera, este día nos regaló la dicha de pasar unos minutos por las playas de Cartagena cerca del aeropuerto Simón Bolívar, belleza naturaleza ante la que quedé extasiada, algunas compañeras bajaron a la orilla, donde cada una sintió en silencio la inmensidad de ese mar Caribe que nos une.
We woke up very early to receive our breakfast and assemble our bags in the transport guided by our star driver who returned to take us to the border, this day gave us the joy of spending a few minutes on the beaches of Cartagena near the airport Simon Bolivar, beauty nature before which I was ecstatic, some companions went down to the shore, where each one felt in silence the immensity of the Caribbean Sea that unites us.
Mientras unas estábamos contemplativas, Gabriela compraba “pancitos bono”, diciendo que no podíamos irnos sin probarlos, vale destacar que gracias a Gabriela pudimos hacer este viaje ya que ella es familia de nuestra Ada madrina. Seguidamente emprendimos camino a otro paradero para almorzar comida típica con mi bebida favorita de Colombia ¡Agua panela!
While some of us were contemplating, Gabriela was buying “pancitos bono”, saying that we could not leave without tasting them, it is worth mentioning that thanks to Gabriela we were able to make this trip since she is family of our godmother Ada. Then we headed to another stop to have lunch with my favorite drink in Colombia, Agua panela!
Más tarde llegamos a la frontera, con dirección Colombia – Maracaibo, allí nos dejó nuestro chofer asegurándose que estuviéramos a salvo con nuestro equipaje en presencia de nuestra ataché, con ella hicimos el mismo procedimiento de pasar por migración, y trasladar nuestro equipaje a otro transporte, igualmente debimos andar activas y en manada.
Later we arrived at the border, with direction Colombia - Maracaibo, there our driver left us making sure we were safe with our luggage in the presence of our ataché, with her we did the same procedure of going through migration, and transfer our luggage to another transport, we also had to walk active and in herd.
Luego de esta travesía, abordamos el transporte del esposo de nuestra ataché, quien, con su particular forma de ser “Maracucho”, hizo del trayecto un traslado ameno. En la carretera nos dio la noche donde pudimos ver los relámpagos del Catatumbo, un espectáculo natural extraordinario, luego por lo tarde nuestra productora nos indicó parar y descansar en un hotel cerca de la Basílica de la Chinita.
After this journey, we boarded the transport of the husband of our ataché, who, with his particular way of being “Maracucho”, made the trip a pleasant transfer. On the road we spent the night where we could see the lightning of Catatumbo, an extraordinary natural spectacle, then in the afternoon our producer told us to stop and rest in a hotel near the Basilica de la Chinita.
Lunes 15 de vuelta a Casa | Monday 15 back home
Esa noche antes de llegar al hotel nuestra ataché y su esposo, para cenar nos llevaron a degustar los famosos patacones, allí nos despedimos de ellos, recibiéndolos a las 6:00 am del lunes para trasladarnos al aeropuerto, el chofer entre risas sugirió que para poder resistir el trayecto debíamos recargarnos con pasteles maracuchos, fue así como en la vía nos detuvimos para desayunar.
That night before arriving at the hotel our ataché and her husband, for dinner they took us to taste the famous patacones, there we said goodbye to them, receiving them at 6:00 am on Monday to transfer us to the airport, the driver laughingly suggested that in order to resist the journey we should recharge with Maracucho cakes, and so on the road we stopped for breakfast.
Al llegar al aeropuerto de Maracaibo me sentí agotada pero tranquila, aun teniendo tiempo antes de abordar el avión, reposamos con café y aperitivos, en ese instante repasaba en mi mente lo vivido reflexionando sobre las ventajas y desventajas de viajar por carretera a otro país, pensé en el sentir de los buenos inmigrantes cuando se van por estas vías cruzando fronteras para un mejor destino. Por eso considero que este viaje para nosotras fue una prueba titánica que nos permitió reconocernos en sororidad y valorar aún más nuestro trabajo, ese estilo musical particular energético que nos ha llevado a conquistar espacios y públicos que reconocen y disfrutan plácidamente nuestra música afrovenezolana.
Upon arriving at the Maracaibo airport I felt exhausted but calm, even having time before boarding the plane, we rested with coffee and snacks, at that moment I reviewed in my mind what I had lived reflecting on the advantages and disadvantages of traveling by road to another country, I thought about the feelings of good immigrants when they go these ways crossing borders for a better destination. That is why I consider that this trip for us was a titanic test that allowed us to recognize ourselves in sorority and value even more our work, that particular energetic musical style that has led us to conquer spaces and audiences that recognize and enjoy our Afro-Venezuelan music placidly.
