Late Night Dance: The Ilokano’s Native Night Wedding.
Last December 21, 2022. I was invited to a close friend's wedding, and as part of the family values and orientation, we joined the night celebration thou it was a kilometer away and the road is not good as they were close to the mountain we packed and drove at 8 in the evening.
Here's how we celebrate the dancing, I am planning to write a full blog “How we Ilokano celebrate traditional wedding” but for now I will bring you to the night of the party. At the “Salunan” or the wedding hall, we were all “Agkansho” or dancing. People could request what type of music and dance they want to share in the hall.
The traditional wedding starts with a long night of dancing such follows. The sweet and romantic music where could be by pair, the freestyle or “do your steps”, the cha cha cha, tango, and traditional where we kampay (Waving hands in the air).
I only have limited hours to join the party, we go 8 in the evening and said goodbye at 11, our way home was quite far and the mountainside area wasn’t safe after all, also I will be joining the “abay” secondary sponsor so good rest also needed.
Enjoy as I bring you the collected short clips of my night of dancing, how we Ilokano and most native Filipino celebrate the night after the wedding.
Thank you.

This was our traditional wedding celebration and the preparation of food is done by all relatives and friends. The spirit of Bayanihan will be shown. But nowadays seldom will or only a few having like this since most of our occasions nowadays are having their cater. The spirit of Bayanihan slowly fades. I salute people who are still having our traditional practice whenever we have the occasion.
Never ko pa natry to.. never din ako sumayaw sa mga sayawan every fiesta samin.. Lol
I experienced this when I attended my cousin's wedding in Cagayan. It was my first time! People would request a type of song and then choose their partners to dance with (even if they don't know each other). When someone asks for a song, they must 'pay' - the money will serve as a gift to the newlyweds! I'm still in awe!
