La Navidad venezolana suena a parrandas, villancicos, gaitas, danza zuliana, varios géneros que se hacen presentes en muchos hogares venezolanos durante esta festividad. Es bien sabido que ha habido un gran éxodo en mi país y que en estas fechas se llega a extrañar más a aquellos que partieron buscando una nueva vida.
Venezuelan Christmas sounds like parrandas, Christmas carols, gaitas, Zulian dance, various genres that are present in many Venezuelan homes during this holiday. It is well known that there has been a great exodus and that at this time of the year people miss even more those who left in search of a new life.
Algunas canciones navideñas contemporáneas venezolanas se han volcado hacia ese deseo, sus letras giran en torno al deseo de volver a tiempos de otrora, de volver a mirar a los ojos a aquellos que no están presentes, pues las fronteras se han vuelto parte de la vida del venezolano.
Some contemporary Venezuelan Christmas songs have turned to this desire, their lyrics revolve around the desire to see the times of yesteryear, to look again into the eyes of those who are not present, because borders have become part of the Venezuelan's life.
Estas canciones nos sumergen en sentimientos de profunda nostalgia y también dibujan sonrisas en nuestro rostro. La música tiene el poder de llevarnos por una serie de emociones únicas y tan distintas, sin lugar a dudas terminamos siendo más libres luego de escuchar una canción que nos gusta. Escuchar una melodía que tiene sentido para nosotros es renacer es muchos aspectos.

Music has the power to take us through a series of unique and very different emotions, without a doubt we end up being freer after listening to a song we like. Esta canción tiene un significado muy especial para mí, desde que la escuché, amé cada parte de ella, incluso el rap disparatado que tan bien retrata la típica Navidad venezolana que viví muchas veces. El año pasado tuve la dicha de poder grabarla en estudio junto a algunos amigos cantantes de la zona. Fue una experiencia nueva, divertida, retadora y extraordinaria.
This song has a very special meaning for me, since I heard it, I loved every part of it, even the crazy rap that so well portrays the typical Venezuelan Christmas that I lived many times. Last year I had the joy of being able to record it in the studio with some local singer friends. It was a new, fun, challenging and extraordinary experience.
Para ese cover que realizamos me animé a hacer un video con las imágenes en estudio y en exteriores que dos de los cantantes grabamos en un sitio emblemático, de mi ciudad: El Paseo Colón.
For that cover we did, I decided to make a video with the studio and outdoor images that two of the singers recorded in an emblematic place of my city: El Paseo Colón.

Esta canción es tan sentimental, esa muestra del deseo de volver a casa. ¿Cuántas veces hemos sentido ganas de volver a ese lugar donde nos sentimos verdaderamente a gusto? Volver al hogar anhelado, aquí hacen un mix con Tu amor para Navidad, se nota lo genial que es versionar una canción y cómo presentando un tema con arreglos nuevos pasa a ser tan especial y distinta.
This song is so sentimental, it shows the desire to go back home. How many times have we felt like going back to that place where we feel at home? Here they do a mix with Tu amor para Navidad, you can see how great it is to cover a song and how presenting a song with new arrangements is so special and different.
En momentos de mi vida tuve que vivir en un país y ciudades alejados de mi hogar, esa sensación de querer regresar se hacían latentes en muchas ocasiones, recuerdo estar en el avión o el autobús y tener el corazón lleno de alegría porque volvería a mi casa.
At times in my life I had to live in a country and cities far away from my home, that feeling of wanting to return became latent on many occasions, I remember being on the plane or bus and having a heart full of joy because I would return home.

Ya había escuchado esta canción y estaba entre mis planes grabar un cover para este año, pero lamentablemente no se pudo llevar a cabo.
I had already heard this song and it was among my plans to record a cover for this year, but unfortunately it couldn't be done.
Esta vez presentan la canción con una historia tan especial que me hizo llorar, Ver a Luigi "hablando" por ese teléfono con su hermano me hizo recordar a una Venezuela distinta.
This time they present the song with such a special story that made me cry, Seeing Luigi "talking" on that phone with his brother made me remember a different Venezuela.
¿Recuerdan todas sus historias con esos teléfonos? Pasamos de monedas a tarjetas para hacer llamadas, luego los vimos desaparecer y ahora todos solemos perdermos en un celular, a veces olvidando a quien tenemos al lado. Es quizá una manera de decir que no somos los mismos, que los años pasan y que los cambios llegan, que a pesar de la distancia siempre podremos estar presentes aún con una mezcla de tristeza en nuestros corazones, pero que de igual forma los recuerdos nos mantendrán de pie, porque han sido tan buenos.
Do you remember all your stories with those phones? We went from coins to cards to make calls, then we saw them disappear and now we all tend to get lost in a cell phone, sometimes forgetting who we have next to us. It is perhaps a way of saying that we are not the same, that the years go by and changes come, that despite the distance we can always be present even with a mixture of sadness in our hearts, but that in the same way the memories will keep us standing, because they have been so good.

Los recuerdos son de diversos tipos: tristes, alegres, etc pero que nos enganchan con el pasado, nos recuerdan todo lo que hemos vivido. Es lo que nos queda al llegar a una edad avanzada. El presente pronto quedará en el pasado y también irá al baúl de los recuerdos, por eso debemos recopilar muchos recuerdos, es decir vivir porque es el resultado al final del túnel. No conocía las dos primeras canciones. Y bueno, me encanta Voz Veis.
Hoy en día hay tantas familias separadas, es duro lo que nos ha tocado vivir como sociedad. Ojalá algún día las cosas mejoren para las generaciones venideras.

These are three beautiful songs with deep and profound meanings.
The joy and happiness we've once felt together as a family in seasons like this is hard to come by especially in periods like this. I can relate well with your story because in Nigeria also, due to the harsh economic reality we face, everyone wants to leave the country in search of "greener pastures" or a land with better opportunities. Hence, we see that in some families, one or two members are no longer in the country. Many have gone to US, Canada, Europe or Asia via student or work visa. A few others take the hard route by bus spending days all in a bid to search for a better life.
In moments like this, we all will definitely remember those moments we enjoyed together. We remember the food we ate together, the jokes, the celebration and all. It is indeed emotional and brings back lots of memories.
Hehe, I remember how my elder sister always prepares Intercontinental dishes for us every Christmas/New Year or Easter Day... hahaha but now she has also left the country. 🥰 Those memories will always be loved and cherished.
