THE BROKEN FIXER

In what ever one do, the importance of maintaining balance cannot be overemphasized. Selflessness for many is a virtue, but it can also be harmful; really harmful. If one cares more for others than him/herself, the person in question might end up drowning. In your quest for making others happy, ensure then that you are happy yourself.

The human person is fragile, so fragile that he/she can easily be broken. But then, it is not always the case that a person is broken by another. So many people are self-broken, and that is probably the worse form of brokenness. In his song Fixer, Brent Morgan painted a perfect image of a self-broken lady. An extremely selfless lady. So selfless that she has entirely given herself up, and that is what I am talking about.

The first time I heard the song Fixer by Brent Morgan, I pulsed for while and had a deep thought; I have met people of such nature, those who can completely sacrifice there dreams just to ensure that others are happy. Sometimes, they drown in guilt. Guilt of not letting themselves flourish, but yet they cannot help it. They have become public helpers who do everything possible to ensure that they fix others, even at their own expense.

Don't just scroll down, please pulse for a while and listen to the lyrics of the song

Many believe that you cannot give what you do not have, but that might not be entirely true. The Fixer as opined by Brent Morgan is damaged down within, but yet she fixes the lonely and even the broken. She fixes everyother person but not herself. It is probably the case that she cannot fix herself. She consoles herself with lies of being alright, but lies are no fix for the truth.

Speaking of lies, it is good to remain positive, but never forget the importance of maintaining balance. In whatever ever you do, never lie to yourself. It is okay to tell yourself that you are not alright, and that you need help. The broken fixer never had the gots to do that, she was probably too afraid of loosing her place as fixer. She was too afraid of giving up her [so called] responsibilities. In all, she was extremely selfless.

When one become too selfless, a little bit of selfishness can help restore balance. By this, I do not opine that one should become selfish, I am only an advocate of a balanced lifestyle. Just like becoming too selfless can become really harmful to one's life, extreme selfishness can also result to a whole lot of harm. Even the Holy Books prioritized self-love. They commanded a love that is equal to that which you have for yourself and family. By implication, not loving yourself enough can even be a sin.

Caring for others is of great importance, but one must not forget him/herself in the process. If you ever love your neighbour more than yourself, then there is a problem. Always remember to check up on yourself. And most importantly, never lie to yourself. It is okay to be broken, all you need to do is to let it out. Let it out to yourself, and then to someone who can help. Don't be like the broken fixer!

I like this song. It carries a strong message. A little bit of selfishness to recharge one's batteries is not crime. Giving and giving until one is wipe out, I consider that a crime. When a tea pot is empty, it becomes useless because no tea can out of it. Insightful post. Well done.

I have met people of such nature, those who can completely sacrifice there dreams just to ensure that others are happy.

They are altruistic and good-natured! We need more of them in this world but like you rightly observed, they must start with loving themselves first. We can only give to others what we have.

Your post is thoughtful and the lyrics of Brent Morgan is inspiring. A fine song. Thanks for sharing. 🙂 !PIZZA

Thank you so much @kemmyb

I absolutely agree with you. One must learn to love him/herself before extending such love to others
