REMIND ME BY SIMI

Life comes with so much challenges, these challenges in some cases causes us to forget. To forget our humanity, what we are really made of. But we can always find our way. There are always those who have had so much impact on us, these people having thought us the right way to go about life can influence us even in their death. All we need to do is to imagine the advice they would have given to us or what they would have done themself if they were in a situation such as ours at that point in time.

If am to say, the most amazing among of all Simi's song is her song "Remind Me". Simisola Bolatiti Ogunleye is a Nigerian Afro musician with the stage name Simi. She is well know for popular songs Duduke, Joromi, Jericho and so many others. There are so many things to say about Simi as she is no doubt one of the most popular Nigerian musician, but I will be stopping here for now.

Simi's heart piercing voice along side the amazing lyrics of the song "remind me" forced me to holistically think about my life the first time I heard that song. She was practically speaking the exact word I should speak to myself in the lyrics of that song. For Simi, she has lost the essence of her humanity. She have become so distracted that she pay little or know attention to her neighbor, all that matter is herself and her immediate family. Though Simi directed the lyrics of the song to herself, but they are no doubt applicable to many.

"Remind me" by Simi speaks to humanity as a whole. Distinct from the fact that we do not look out for our race, we have even lost reasons to try. As Simi will put it, "even when it took hard for us to care, we forgot how to try". It is probably the case that the norms of the society have made it very difficult for us to care, but we have completely being engolfed by these norms. Every man on his own. The words of our elders who probably have feed our ears with reasons why we should be human have entirely broken free from our mind. The only people that deserve our love are just ourselves and probably those we call family.

Remind me by Simi

Remind me is a soft going R&B with a little touch of Afro which came from Simi's pure Yoruba (one of Nigerian's major tribe) accent. The original song is a soft solo majorly accompanied by an acoustic piano. The soft going nature of the song completely alines with the message it carries. The song remind me is an amazing song but Simi left a question unanswered in it. Having used the phrase "remind me" in the song, nobody really understood who it is that was suppose to remind her. I do not know if I am right on this but it could be the case that Simi was speaking to her dead father. "Remind me" is the first song in the album "Charlie" by Simi, an album dedicated to her dead father Charlie. Though it sounds funny but it is on this note that I proposed Simi's father as the one being spoken to in her song "remind me".

Simi is such a beautiful talent, I love and have a lot of her songs. And your write-up gives this song another beautiful perspective.
