LESSONS FROM YOUNG PARTON

As a kid, my mom's favorite song was "coat of many colors" by Dolly Parton. I guess she influenced me. It also became my favorite at some stage of my life. Though the lyrics of the song are powerful, but I never paid attention to that. I was just a kid, and all I did was to love a song I have heard continuously for a long period of time.

Coat of many colours is a gentle country music with an amazing lyrics. As a kid, I sang the lyrics along side my mom without understanding the message behind the song. At some point I even did not sing the right lyrics, I never cared though; I just flowed with the melody of the song. Since it was a song that kept resounding around me, it gradually unravel its true message to me as I grew. I got to realize that there are lots of lessons to learn from young Parton.

Lessons from young Parton
One's ability to appreciate is never based on the amount of offering given to the person. That is the first lesson I learnt from young Parton. Imagine putting on a coat made of rags to school. Though her clothes, shoes and even bag were below standard, but Parton never failed to appreciate her mother's effort. She even equated her wears to that of every other student, Parton was simply a grateful kid. She is the best kid one can ever have.

The second lesson I learnt from young Parton is how powerful a mother's love can be. Parton was so engulfed by her mother's love that she had to transmit this love to her follow students who probably lacked such one. Even as she was being laughed at by the other students, she felt they were ignorant of their actions. As a matter of fact, she only retaliated by making them understand. She told them the story behind the coat and how much love her mother invested in it. She was simply a child filled with a mother's love.

Being happy is never dependent on how much you have in your account. Young Parton tough me that. Despite not having as much as many of her fellow students, young Parton felt she was rich. She experienced a kind of happiness that goes beyond every form of wealth. She was probably the happiest student in her school despite being the only one that was putting on rags. She was so happy that she never took any of the things being said to her by the students to heart.

The last thing I learnt from young Parton is that maturity is never tantamount to age. Though she was as young as her follow students but she exhibited a level of maturity that supersedes that of each and everyone of them. Having being laughed at her follow student, Parton never returned the same attitude to them, neither did she feel bad about their actions. In fact, she saw their ignorance and did all that she can to help understand. Though she is a child, but her behavior goes beyond that of a child.
