ANGELS ARE NOT ALWAYS WINGED CREATURES...

As a growing child, I was not all that a friendly guy. I had very few friends. It was so bad that I found it very difficult to look girls in the eye, I guess I owe that to my upbringing. I think I have grown now, I have become so social that I sometimes smile at the imagination of my former self.

Those who know me from before sometimes wonder what made me who I have become. The only response to that is that life has happened to me. I have met different people, culture and even lifestyle. Each of those times, people and places are not just memories; they are milestones that I will never forget. They made me the man that I have become.

Each time I hear the song Memories by Maroon 5, it makes me flash back to what was. Those things, people and places that helped build the man I have become. Sometimes I wish I can go back to them, but it is certainly impossible, one got to move on. I am Ernest, and I believe that there are memories that leaves indelible marks on us. These memories help define who we become. In other words, they help us realize a better version of ourselves.

The most defining of all my memories is the one I had with my brothers. Sometimes I wish I could go back in time to revisit the good moments we sheared, but that is absolutely impossible. Jeffery, Nkas, Reginald, Cyprian, Ibekwe, Val and Asa became my brothers as I journeyed to the City of Ibadan for the first time ever. I joined the Shoenstatt Fathers Community in the year 2017, there I met these seven amazing young men. They became my immediate class mate, but beyond that, they became my brothers. As part of my self discovery, I left the religious life at some point. That notwithstanding, I will never forget the memories we sheared. I wish we never had to go our separate ways, but we simply had to. Growth demanded that...

As we pass through stages, we meet new people, new opportunities and new lives; mine is no different. I owe everything I have become to peoples and places who have offered me several opportunities. My old self use to be timid and lonely, but I somehow escaped that lifestyle. The fact that I owe it to amazing people whose memory lives in me cannot be overemphasized. The effect of these friends on me kind of brought me out of my shell. Beyond the immediate effect of these amazing friends on me, the memories of their actions unconsciously define my actions.

In all, the effect of good friendship cannot be overemphasized. Remembering the good time spent with amazing friends can sometimes bring smile to our face, even in our unconscious. Some are of the opinion that trusting humans can be really harmful. Though I do not entirely oppose such opinion, but it must also be noted that their is no human who can survive without the help of others. To surround yourself with amazing friends is same as to dwell among angels, they are like guardian angels wavering around us. As Cobhams will put it [in his song Angels All Around], an Angel is not always a winged creature or creature out of the story book, Angels are sometimes good people who help you move forward...

If you have read up till this point, then here is my recommendation: allow angels come around you if you do not have some around. The fact that some devils can come is form of Angels is indubitable, but we cannot deny ourselves the joy and happiness that comes with being around Angels just because we do not want to get into the hands of a devil.
