On this occasion, the selector (me) will offer some beautiful musical selections from this great artist:

There is a wealth of information about this extraordinary artist on the internet, so I will limit myself to offering a very personal view of her without resorting to sources such as Wikipedia or specialized music websites.
Nina Simone came into my life at one of those moments when experiences leave their mark, for better or for worse, in the midst of adolescence. I can say that I suffered and enjoyed my adolescence to the core, almost to the point of death.
It was a time when certain artists left a lasting impression on me that has remained with me over the decades. Artists who, for me, were not only great musicians or composers, but also ethical and moral role models.
I remember how George Clinton, in an interview, explained the breakup of Parliament at the height of their success in the following way (I'm paraphrasing): “They didn't understand that you can go further with a spaceship than with a car.” The trips that money can buy are always short. The important ones are different.
And don't worry, if you're still reading, I haven't strayed from today's topic.
From my vantage point, built on decades of experience in this world, I continue to be amazed at how inevitable the emergence of hierarchy, injustice, and exclusion seems to be as soon as three human beings come together. Hence my admiration for people who have the courage to do the right thing.
Nina Simone is one of those people, women and men, whom I admire. Mirrors that, as in the fairy tale of Snow White, give us back the uncomfortable and real image of what is reflected.
This is how I see her, feel her, and hear her:
Very occasionally, a generation has the privilege of witnessing on Earth the courageous journey of a being as beautiful as Nina Simone. Beautiful, strong, tough, proud, and very human, this is how this beautiful panther showed herself while she walked among us.
She made herself seen at a very opportune moment, one of those moments when lukewarmness can no longer be dressed up as kindness. Marthin Luther King would say about this:
The ultimate tragedy is not the cruelty and oppression of bad people, but the silence of good people in the face of it.
Our protagonist became the voice of the voiceless, the pride of the excluded, she gave words to suffering and at the same time restored faith and hope.
The cries of generations of servants and slaves passed through her throat. She was a free woman. The ultimate expression of independence. She didn't need applause or a look of approval from above. It was enough for her to live, face to face, with those who were her equals.
I have to say that it was difficult to find legitimate videos of Nina Simone in which she appeared in person.
There are not many recordings that offer the opportunity to see her in a live concert or on a television program with good image and sound quality, so I have taken the liberty of presenting two videos that do not meet the criteria of the initiative, although for this select session I think they are more than justified.
But not all the videos were going to be out of the running. In three of them, we have the privilege of seeing this beautiful lady playing the piano and singing live.
Each video will be accompanied by a fragment of the lyrics of the song performed. I hope you enjoy this session by a great artist. By a prodigious human being.

Existe todo un raudal de información sobre esta descomunal artista en internet por lo que me limitaré a ofrecer una visión muy personal de ella sin acudir a fuentes como wikipedia o especializadas en música.
Nina Simone llegó a mi vida en uno de esos momentos en los que las experiencias dejan su huella, para bien o para mal; en plena adolescencia.
Puedo decir que sufrí y disfruté de mi adolescencia hasta el tuétano, casi hasta morir.
Momento, en el que algunos artistas me dejaron una gran huella que permanece con el paso de las décadas. Artistas que para mí no sólo fueron/son grandes músicos o compositores, sino también referentes éticos y morales.
Recuerdo como George Clinton, en una entrevista, explicaba la separación de Parliament en pleno éxito de la siguiente manera (parafraseo): "no comprendieron que con una nave espacial se llega más lejos que con un coche". Los viajes que puede pagar el dinero siempre son de corto recorrido. Los importantes son otros.
Y no te preocupes, si todavía sigues leyendo, que no me he desviado de la temática de hoy.
Desde mi atalaya, construida con las décadas ya vivividas en este mundo, me sigue causando asombro lo inevitable que parece ser el nacimiento de la jerarquía, la injusticia y la exclusión en cuanto tres seres humanos se asocian. De ahí mi admiración por las personas que tienen el valor de hacer lo correcto.
Nina Simone es una de esas personas, mujeres y hombres, a las que admiro. Espejos que, como en el cuento de Blancanieves, nos devuelven la incómoda y real imagen de lo reflejado.
De esta manera la veo, la siento y la escucho:
Muy ocasionalmente, una generación tiene el privilegio de presenciar sobre la Tierra la valiente travesía de un ser tan bello como Nina Simone. Hermosa, fuerte, dura, orgullosa y muy humana, así se mostró esta bellísima pantera mientras anduvo entre nosotros.
Se hizo ver en un momento muy oportuno, de esos en los que la tibieza ya no se puede vestir de bondad. Diría Marthin Luther King al respecto:
La tragedia definitiva no es la opresión y crueldad de la gente mala, sino el silencio de la gente buena ante ello.
Nuestra protagonista se convirtió en la voz de los /las sin voz, en el orgullo de los excluidos/as, puso palabra al sufrimiento y devolvió al mismo tiempo fe y esperanza.
Por su garganta desfilaron los lamentos de generaciones de siervos y esclavos. Fue una mujer libre. La maxima expresión de la independencia. No necesitó de un aplauso, ni de una mirada de aprobación desde arriba. Le bastó con vivir, cara a cara, con los que fueron sus iguales.
Tengo que decir que me ha costado encontrar vídeos legítimos de Nina Simone en los que apareciera ella en persona.
No existen tantas grabaciones que ofrezan la oportunidad de verla en algún concierto en directo o en algún programa de televisión con imagen y sonido de buena calidad, por lo que me he tomado la licencia de presentar dos videos que no cumplen con los criterios de la iniciativa, aunque para esta sesión de selecter creo que están más que justificados.
Pero no todo los videos iban a estar fuera de concurso. En tres de ellos tenemos el privilegio de poder ver a esta bella dama tocando el piano y cantando en directo.
A cada video le acomapañará algún fragmento de la letra del tema interpretado. Espero que disfrutes de esta sesión de una gran artsita. De un ser humano prodigioso.

Surprised tota.... what can I say... speechless. I didn't know the singer although I like some soul, she has an impressive voice and I went to look for information about her. You've done a great job, and she has an official channel, that's valuable! I loved the third video because of the graphics, and while you wanted her to be seen I liked how many of her videos have been done, graphically. I repeat... what a great voice and what a great artist, she has marked an important part of your life. Spectacular review!!! A panther, yes!

Gracias por la invitación, sigo disfrutando las melodías, mientras te respondo. Alguna, la última, sospecho que la escuche antes, pero no tengo registro en mi memoria.
La verdad es que mi desconocimiento del inglés me lleva a no identificar a muchos cantantes en esa lengua.
El mensaje de resistencia y fortaleza dirigido a una raza, en las letras, bien puede ser válido para otras minorías, incluida la más pequeña. El individuo que no se pliega a seguir al rebaño y aunque esté hay, anda solo.

En eso también estamos de acuerdo. La buena gente que con sus actos sostiene a los malos. Alguna vez puede que yo también formara parte de ellos y ahora, bueno, la verdad es que me siento aliviado de no ser juez. Hay un amigo en Hive que me acusa de no tener pelos en la lengua y la verdad es que muchas veces le pongo una peluca o simplemente me cayo para no escandalizar o entrar en polémica inútil.
