CLEANPLANET BIWEEKLY PROMPT:My Favorite Song
When I haven't gotten my first android phone yet, my sisters will let me play songs on their phones and one thing I hated was that each time I wanted to play a song, I just couldn't find the right one I wanted to listen to. One of my sisters will play Ed Sheeran's 'Perfect' all day long plus other lovey-dovey songs, sometimes heartbreak songs. I found them really boring because what does a 12 year old know about love and heartbreak? I just couldn't relate to them but you need to see the way they sing those songs like their hearts will stop working again if they don't sing it that way.
When I finally got my own phone, I was happy I would be able to download and play the songs I can relate to. A lot of times when doing my chores I just prefer afrobeats and maybe some amapiano. You know, spending half of my time singing and dancing instead of actually doing my work. My music taste was influenced to a greater degree by the people around. I may say say I find love songs boring but if someone close to me keeps playing love songs all the time, then there's a chance I'm going to start listening to them. I also didn't like traditional songs before but I lived with my aged aunt for quite a long period of time and she listens to a lot of traditional songs, before you know it, I was already falling in love with them to the extent that I could even tell which song is playing just from the beat.
Previously I used to be a die hard loyal fan, which means if a song isn't from my favorite artist I am more likely to hit the next button. For example I am a die hard fan of Sia and I hardly download any song that isn't from Sia. It's just so funny when I tell someone my favorite artist is Sia and they look at me like, who is that?. Anyways, her songs are way too good for me and so relatable, her lyrics speaks so deep to my heart that I won't even want to play any other song in my phone. That was then, it was later that I realized that there are damn good songs from other artists too and I just couldn't limit myself to that one particular artist. So right now, I have a touch of almost everyone, if the song is good, I'm good.
There has been so many songs from a lot of different singers that sparks so many emotions for me. Sometimes I can't even keep up with the current ones, unless of course TikTok do what it knows best and makes some songs really popular. Currently, one of my favorite song is "See you again" by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth. It is a very famous song because of it's soundtrack in 'Furious 7'. The song was used as a tribute to Paul Walker, a well-known actor who sadly passed away in an accident. It's a very emotional song that talks about the long with reunited with friends who may have separated at some point in life. The song hold so much meaning and each time I play it, I remember all my friends both the ones still with me and especially the ones that have been separated from me. I remember the good times we had, the loving memories we shared and the times we had to stand up for each other. I have a friend I lost in death during my secondary school days, she was very dear to me but sadly I had to let her go. It wasn't so easy to accept the fact that she was gone just like that but I had so other choice but to. So each time I play this song, it reminds me of her and other friend who were very special to me but can't be close to me at the moment.
Music is hands down one of the best things that happen to us and like food, it comes in many varieties, in colourful words that speaks to our souls, in many melodies that lifts us up when we're down, in many rhythms that keeps the vibe going. It's all in the diversity, so chose your spice, mix it up if you have to and savor every beat.
