Is your mind in the gutter? Well you're wrong

Fingering Stuff.png

Tuesdays are quickly becoming one of my favourite days of the week, apart from Fridays obviously because I get to dedicate some time to music. Finding new music, old music and everything in between. Just not make music because, well, that would sound so bad, I'd probably make your ears bleed. The only thing that I could offer for guitaring would be my fingernails down the guitarstock which would probably still sound like they're on a chalkboard 🤣 I would laugh, you would laugh and then we'd probably all cry.

(ALAS )

A while back I was introduced to the song G.O.A.T by Polyphia. Shout out to @olujay. And what an epic song! Today I'm going to throw in an artist who I think made this song even more epic - on accoustic!

This is Paolo Gans from the Phillipines. He plays percussive fingerstyle guitar and well, his music will show the passion he has for it. I actually found him while going down the Polyphia rabbit hole this morning - he won the contest of best cover with his version of Playing God and his prize was the signature Ibanez TOD10N guitar of Tim Henson. A collectors item if ever their was one! Well deserved too. Wanna know what he did with G.O.A.T? Check out this rendition! MIND OFFICIALLY BLOWN!

If you want to listen to the original first, you can go here.

Now you have to take into account that the original song is played by the whole band (back in the day when Tim Henson still looked more like an innocentish teenager and less like a guitar God). One thing that in my own opinion sets musicians apart is you get some that only do covers, then you get musicians that only do originals. You get ones that do everything. Paolo Gans does everything and then some - on one guitar. If you think the first 30 seconds are good, wait until 0:55 when he starts the melody!

If you appreciated that as much as I did, please go show Paolo some support on his channel, I think he's earned it.

YOU WANT HARDER?

While down the Tim Henson rabbit hole, I happened on this one which is also one of those songs that shoves it's might down your throat, grabs your heart and stops it from beating for a while. I also enjoyed the gameplay with Luke Holland running around in the background twirling his drumstick in the air🤣 Nutter. I love it.

No Monty Python fans in the house? No? Ok, fine. Moving on

NOW A LOT A LOT HARDER!

Meet Nik Nocturnal. He's probably a vampire. He doesn't sleep much hence the name and the black rings under his eyes, but I appreciate him because he's funny AF and he makes anything everything metal.

You will need to watch a few of his clips to get him, but if you don't like metal, well then there's no point really. In fact, if you don't like metal, don't listen to the song. This is a vid of him creating a Slipknot inspired song by "Slapnutz" 🤣 called MAD with riffs and stuff and slapping it together in a program (I don't know which one so don't ask me, ask him). The first half of the video is worth watching just for the comedy factor, but if you just want to hear the song, it starts at 5:10. Yes, he's wearing a tortilla face mask! No, I'm not going to explain it lol. Enjoy.

Thanks again to @ablaze for this awesome initiative #TTT. It's such good fun and totally perked up my day which sucked because I'm sick.

Peace Out Y'all

Em 🤘

AHAHAHAHAHAHA NICE FINGERING EMMA! A pro always starts soft, well played 🤣 this post made me laugh so so so many times, ahhhh my lungs hurt now! 😂

And I love that you threw in a Monty Python reference too! Coconuts? In MERCIA?! Well, supposing two swallows carried it together... Guess it's time to watch holy grail again 😁

Nik Nocturnal is my kind of humor 100%, funny + metal? I have a feeling I'll be watching a lot of his videos later! Thanks for all the giggles and the jams bud! 💚

Hahaha.

Grindan where have you been my whole life?

I swear we were separated at birth 🤣

I had to throw in Monty Python, they are getting a lot of hate at the moment but I dig their skits and it was so fitting.

Nik is so good, the excitement at the puppy killed me. He's worth a sub. You are most welcome, I'm so happy that you got all the inside jokes 😘

Ayyyyy...🔥🔥 You should have seen me scream! 😂

I am so happy to see this post. It's almost like you have somehow connected to my mind and heart to write this, because...??? I am so stunned that you know this much about Polyphia now. It feels so nice that you do, as it makes me feel less crazy. 😂

Paolo is so damn talented. I actually was watching Polyphia's stream to select their winner and that was when I found him. I was just as stunned as Polyphia when they saw how he played everything, even the drums!!! I mean, there is a limit to what you can do on one guitar, but this guy was able to fill it very well and made it sound super good. Like a different kind of sweet. I think my favorite part is the bass solo he covered from 2:07 (not putting the time for you, cause you definitely know what I am talking about.

That rabbit hole you went down, I go there a gazillion times. I have listened to almost all of Polyphia's songs.

There is one I think you'd love too. It's Ego Death ft Steve Vai. Man!!! That song is fire!! Especially when Steve comes in, and then there was a bonus part with the trumpet at the end.

Now, for Nik. He's just like that. He is funny yet creative. I don't follow him much, because I am not so into metal like that. I am more into Math Rock like Polyphia, Manuel Gardner Fernandes, and Ichika Nito.

You may love Manuel and Ichika Nito. Manuel is more punchy with his sound, and Ichika is usually more laid back. They have both played with Tim as well.

It so warms my heart to see this post and that you love Polyphia.

How have you been, by the way?

Joe, I'm glad this made your day. Of course I had to tag you! YES! I've listened to Ego Death...many times in fact. It's on my playlist. I was very surprised when I first saw Steven Vai walk on...it was a "holy fuck" moment. That's epic. I really enjoy seeing the greats of the previous decades comingling with the newer bands.

I watch Nik mostly for Nik being Nik and the music is just a bonus 🤣 He does produce some surprisingly cool stuff.

Shot for the extra songs, will definitely check out Manuel and Ichika. The more music, the better! I've been good thanks, just caught a cold which is deflating my energy a bit, but otherwise still trucking you know? And you?

Sorry about the cold. I trust you are taking meds for it already.

I am well, actually. I recently had an induction ceremony into the Nigerian Society of Engineers. It's something I am proud of and excited about.

I hope you get well soon enough.

Holy shit balls, where do I begin!!! So much to unpack.... First things first, I feckin love Monty Python, some of the funniest skits ever made, Jesus people need to remember they are JOKES, for christ ake if some people had their way, we'd just stop talking completely as humans for the fear we might offend somebody.

That first tune was unreal, playing a full band of instruments on a guitar, that guy has some talent, well impressed...

I am most certainly not a metal fan, but that guy is pretty damn funny to be fair, I got a good laugh out of that and pretty cool to see him piecing a song together like that..

😁

This made me smile. I think Monty Python were great and the hate they are getting is just wrong. People are too freaking sensitive these days.

I was absolutely blown away by that guitar work, it was stellar and I'm so glad that he's now getting a bit of exposure since his covers and winning that contest, he's unbelievably talented.

Nik is just ridiculous and yet, he gets music so well, I like some metal but only in smallish doses, I can however watch Nik all day long just for his excite moments. This next TTT I'll be toning it down somewhat and including some pretty tunes, I've already been creating lists the past few days. It is a highlight of my week.

A few of my favourite scenes.... It's the absurdity that is genius...

I was absolutely blown away by that guitar work

It really was, out of this world, it reminded me a bit of a guy called Preston Reed who you may like if you enjoy this guitar percussion. Hmmmm, I might just do a post on him soon! Thanks for the inspiration..
