Double Bass Mastery - Swing it, Dad!

I dedicate this to my Dad and to all of you who have recently lost someone.

Dear Music Community, I hope it's ok that I place this post here - I was looking for a suitable forum.

My Dad was born on August 6, 1937. He passed away July 16, 2024, shortly before his 87th birthday. It's been two months today.
I am sharing this with you because I would like you to know what a great #musician he was (apart from him being an amazing father).
I believe putting him on blockchain will record his legacy and he will stay with us forever.

My Dad had the swing! He was a renowned Jazz player in the 1960s, 70s and 80s in Austria. He taught the double #bass at the music conservatory in my hometown. After leading the institution for 13 years he retired in 2002. 2003 his first grandson was born and he took up his next role as Grandpa. He had to quit the bass due to some severe health issues. He never talked much about it, but I could tell a piece of him was lost.

My Dad dedicated his whole life to #music and Jazz in particular, he was an inspirational #teacher and great friend to his many students. I believe he passed down his talent to his grandsons, who hopefully will bring their music and rhythm to #Hive one day.

At the young age of 20 my Dad - Toni - joined the Josel Trio, which over the years earned him a reputation as an exceptional bass player. He became a regular at the #Opera #orchestra in our hometown. He also toured a lot and got amazing engagements such as in the #swing orchestra of Maynard Ferguson in Vienna in 1969.
In the link Maynard Ferguson introduces him as being with him for many years, which is a pun as he had been engaged only recently and Maynard had to ask him for his name (I don't need to tell you that I listened to this story a hundred times!)
Check out his solo right after the introduction, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Most of the recordings featuring my Dad were made by the #trombone player of Josel Trio, Rudi Josel who is not only an exceptional Jazz musician but was also part of the famous Vienna #Philharmonic Orchestra. His younger brother, Manfred Josel became a renowned teacher for Jazz #drums. I'd like to share two recordings featuring all three musicians. If you happen to hear two trombones, well - Rudi plays both 😉 using the technology back in the 60s to create this amazing sound!

Thank you Dad for bringing joy and music to my life ❤️! Rest in Peace!

Yes, two of them played an improvised piece at his funeral. There were so many musicians, teachers, friends there. They called him their Bass-Father, he kept iin touch with them all his life.
