Hubo una época donde la música tuvo un rostro que se consolidó como el principal motor de esa cultura juvenil, pues sin duda todos los que vivimos en nuestra adolescencia en dichos años lo conocíamos muy bien. Sí, hablo de MTV aquel canal que en los 90 fue un fenómeno cultural con una fuerza inigualable para la difusión musical donde muchos artistas tuvieron el reconocimiento que se merecían no solo por el talento sino también por su creatividad, su ingenio, su originalidad. Este canal de TV que formó parte de mi adolescencia también emigró a las cadenas de streaming lo que en verdad, ni me importa ya.

There was a time when music had a face that became the main driving force behind youth culture, because without a doubt, all of us who were teenagers during those years knew it very well. Yes, I'm talking about MTV, the channel that was a cultural phenomenon in the 90s with unparalleled power to spread music, where many artists got the recognition they deserved not only for their talent but also for their creativity, ingenuity, and originality. This TV channel, which was part of my adolescence, also migrated to streaming networks, which, to be honest, I don't really care about anymore.

Ya no es aquel canal que difundía el arte y sus creadores. Se convirtió lamentablemente por decisiones internas en pura basura televisiva dejando un lado todo ese legado, su historia y las emociones que ofrecían al televidente dejaron de un lado a toda una generación que vivió de cerca la música en estéreo. Es difícil olvidar aquellos MTV unplugged, esperar con ansias los 10 más pedidos, Celebrity deatmatch, Daría entre otros que acompañaron a este increíble rostro de la música en los 90 como el MTV News que fue una gran fuente de noticias sobre temas sociales y la cultura juvenil dando voz y visibilidad a temas relevantes para nuestra generación.

It is no longer the channel that promoted art and its creators. Unfortunately, due to internal decisions, it has become pure television trash, leaving behind its legacy, its history, and the emotions it offered viewers. They have left behind an entire generation that experienced music in stereo up close. It's hard to forget those MTV Unplugged shows, eagerly awaiting the Top 10 requests, Celebrity Deathmatch, Daria, among others, that accompanied this incredible face of music in the 90s, as well as MTV News, which was a great source of news on social issues and youth culture, giving voice and visibility to issues relevant to our generation.

Mtv logró ser definitivamente más importante cuando abrió la puerta al rock y la música latina. No cabe duda que fue una de las decisiones más cruciales para el canal ya que acompañaron el gran auge del grunge y el rock alternativo (Nirvana, Pearl Jam) y con esa puerta abierta se convirtió en el gran escenario digital para el rock en español con bandas o artistas como: Héroes del Silencio, Café Tacvba, Molotov, Shakira (en sus inicios 😂) por supuesto también se le abrió la oportunidad de que bandas como Soda Stereo participaran en los que aún hoy se convirtieran en álbumes tan apreciados que han llegado a convertirse en hitos culturales para la nueva generación. Lastimosamente, esta es una rara especie de generación cuando a la música me refiero.

MTV definitely became more important when it opened its doors to rock and Latin music. There is no doubt that this was one of the most crucial decisions for the channel, as it accompanied the great boom of grunge and alternative rock (Nirvana, Pearl Jam) and, with that door open, it became the great digital stage for Spanish rock with bands and artists such as Héroes del Silencio, Café Tacvba, Molotov, Shakira (in its early days 😂). Of course, it also opened up opportunities for bands like Soda Stereo to participate in what have become highly acclaimed albums that have gone on to become cultural milestones for the new generation. Unfortunately, this is a rare breed of generation when it comes to music.

Pero en fin, MTV será para muchos un gran y hermoso recuerdo de nuestra adolescencia así que me dispongo a abordar la nave y trasladarlos conmigo nuevamente a esa era dorada de los 90 con unos vídeos clip que les aseguro se sentirán de 17 años otra vez. Espero les guste este increíble paseo al pasado musical. Los invito a que volvamos a hacer oídos sordos con nuestros vecinos y por qué no subirle un poco más a tu antiguo equipo de sonido

But anyway, MTV will be a great and beautiful memory of our adolescence for many, so I am going to board the ship and take you back with me to that golden era of the 90s with some music videos that I assure you will make you feel 17 again. I hope you enjoy this incredible trip down musical memory lane. I invite you to turn a deaf ear to your neighbors once again and, why not, turn up the volume on your old stereo a little more.
