Hoy es día de Three Tune Tuesday y la excusa perfecta creada por @ablaze para escarbar en nuestros reproductores y compartir esas bandas que nos vuelan la cabeza. Para mi es un gusto ser parte cada de estos martes que sin duda se han vuelto cotidianidad en la comunidad de Music. Una iniciativa que nos ha impulsado a conocer más música, de leer anécdotas, de conocer los gustos de otros y la manera de ver la música. Como se han dado cuenta mis gustos musicales son bastantes variables ja ja ja… y es que desde niño siempre escuché que para ser un buen músico y entender la música, hay que escuchar de todo, y bueno, me enfoqué en eso.

Today is Three Tune Tuesday the perfect excuse created by @ablaze to dig through our playlists and share those bands that blow our minds. For me, it’s a pleasure to be part of every one of these Tuesdays, which have undoubtedly become a regular feature in the Music community. It’s an initiative that has encouraged us to discover more music, read stories, learn about others’ tastes, and understand their perspectives on music. As you’ve probably noticed, my musical tastes are pretty eclectic, ha ha ha… and that’s because ever since I was a kid, I was always told that to be a good musician and understand music, you have to listen to everything and well, I took that to heart.

Hoy quiero ponerme un poco profundamente rítmico y no es que venga a hablar de Angine de Poitrine, ya de ellos hablamos en un anterior TTT. Quiero hablar de una banda que desafió las leyes de la métrica tradicional y que convirtió la matemática en arte puro y es que incluso décadas después siguen siendo pioneros y creo por ahora ni los mismos Angine de Poitrine ha podido superarlos. Por supuesto que hablo de TOOL.

Today I want to get a little deep into rhythm, and I’m not here to talk about Angine de Poitrine we already covered them in a previous TTT. I want to talk about a band that defied the laws of traditional meter and turned mathematics into pure art; even decades later, they remain pioneers, and I don’t think even Angine de Poitrine themselves have been able to surpass them yet. Of course, I’m talking about TOOL.

He escuchado muchas bandas que han intentado recrear el sonido de TOOL sin llegar a romper esa brecha de arte puro. Bandas como Kolm, Wheel de quienes no me quejo para nada de su sonido pero es evidente que tienen una gran influencia de TOOL. En este TTT quiero centrarme en la era de un álbum que funciona como un pilar inalcanzable de la música contemporánea, justo lo que otras bandas han querido conseguir fallando en el intento. Hablo de ¨Lateralus¨ quien luego de cuarto de siglo de su lanzamiento sigue tan joven como su primer dia de estreno y como ya he dicho, consolidándose como una obra maestra de la arquitectura musical.

I’ve heard many bands that have tried to recreate TOOL’s sound without quite reaching that level of pure artistry. Bands like Kolm and Wheel I have no complaints about their sound, but it’s clear they’re heavily influenced by TOOL. In this TTT, I want to focus on an album that stands as an unattainable pillar of contemporary music exactly what other bands have tried to achieve but failed to do so. I’m talking about “Lateralus,” which, a quarter-century after its release, remains as fresh as the day it came out and, as I’ve said, has established itself as a masterpiece of musical architecture.

Quiero que preparen sus audífonos porque hoy desglosamos tres joyas de esta época dorada. Preciosas obras que no cabe duda que al escuchar, logramos entrar a una atmósfera solo imaginable por la banda, un sello que dejaron marcado en la juventud que los escuchó. No era tan fanático de TOOL hasta que escuché esta magnífica obra de arte. Es difícil para mí escoger solo tres y pensé en compartir todo este disco pero de seguro a algunos no le gustara entonces, definitivamente compartiré mis tres favoritas. ¿Listos?

These are beautiful works that, when you listen to them, undoubtedly transport you to a world that only the band could imagine a mark they left on the young people who listened to them. I wasn’t that big of a TOOL fan until I heard this magnificent work of art. It’s hard for me to pick just three, and I thought about sharing the whole album, but I’m sure some of you wouldn’t like that, so I’ll definitely share my three favorites. Ready?
