Seguimos conociéndonos musicalmente porque como saben, aquí presentamos una recopilación de lo que ha sido mi viaje musical alrededor de mis 42 años de edad. Como ya saben, mis gustos musicales son bastantes variados y puedo escuchar lo que sea, menos Vallenato y este nuevo Genero de reguetón. Y digo este nuevo género porque en comparación de lo que fue Don Omar, Tego Calderón esto sigo insistiendo que no tiene pies ni cabeza. Pero no vine hablarles de ellos o su estilo, vine a recordar mis 17 años cuando salía de clases y me dirigía a la plaza más cercana a colocarme los audífonos y escuchar en mi Discman esta banda que sin duda dejó recuerdos.

We’re continuing to get to know each other musically because, as you know, here I’m presenting a compilation of my musical journey over the course of my 42 years. As you already know, my musical tastes are quite varied, and I can listen to just about anything except for vallenato and this new reggaeton genre. And I say “this new genre” because, compared to what Don Omar and Tego Calderón were, I still insist that this makes no sense at all. But I didn’t come here to talk about them or their style; I came to reminisce about when I was 17, leaving school and heading to the nearest plaza to put on my headphones and listen on my Discman to this band that undoubtedly left lasting memories.

Sí amigos, con un Discman ja ja ja… Bueno tengo 42 años y agradezco ser parte de la generación que ha vivido el cambio de la tecnología desde la raíz. Tuve hasta discos de acetato de Michel jakson ja ja ja… que época tan buena cuando uno es adolecente y se siente infinitamente feliz, sin problemas más allá de esperar el fin de semana o algún examen en cuestión. Cero preocupaciones de pagar Luz, que cuanto queda de gas o ver la nevera más vacía que la botella de un borracho ja ja ja… En ese momento recuerdo que solo me preocupaba tener lo más nuevo dela música, la ropa adecuada para la moda, la chica del otro salón y que mi mamá me diera permiso ja ja ja… Díganme ¿no les provoca tener 17? Ja ja ja

Yeah, friends, with a Discman, ha ha ha… Well, I’m 42 years old, and I’m grateful to be part of the generation that’s experienced the evolution of technology from the ground up. I even had vinyl records by Michael Jackson, ha ha ha… What a great time it was when you’re a teenager and feel infinitely happy, with no problems beyond waiting for the weekend or some upcoming exam. No worries about paying the electric bill, how much gas is left, or seeing the fridge emptier than a drunkard’s bottle, ha ha ha… Back then, I remember my only concerns were having the latest music, the right clothes to be fashionable, the girl from the other classroom, and getting my mom’s permission, ha ha ha… Tell me, doesn’t it make you want to be 17 again? Ha ha ha

Pero bueno a lo que venimos, hay bandas que llegan en el momento exacto para romper moldes y sin duda Kittie es una de ellas. Cuando estas chicas de 17 años decidieron formar una banda de metal de seguro nunca imaginaron la gran montaña que moverían. Y es que les aseguro que nadie esperaba es que esas chicas se convertirían en un fenómeno global y en un símbolo de resistencia dentro de un género dominado por hombres pero lo lograron y de una manera bastante fuerte, claro y ambiciosa. Recuerdo a muchos amigos hablando de ellas y de lo impresionados que estaban y que les puedo decir, yo era uno de los emocionados.

But anyway, let’s get to the point: there are bands that come along at just the right moment to break the mold, and Kittie is undoubtedly one of them. When these 17-year-old girls decided to form a metal band, they surely never imagined the huge impact they would have. And I can assure you that no one expected these girls to become a global phenomenon and a symbol of resistance within a male-dominated genre, but they did it and in a powerful, clear, and ambitious way. I remember many friends talking about them and how impressed they were, and what can I say I was one of those excited ones.

Kittie presentó una propuesta feroz que mezclaba nu metal, groove metal y hardcore. No cabe duda que Spit fue un disco que les abrió las puertas del gran espectáculo. Ese disco fue un éxito inesperado dado que las expectativas de ventas superaron un número mayor de lo que imaginaban. Luego las llevó a girar junto a bandas como Slipknot, Pantera, Korn entre otras grande de la generación. Canciones como Brackish y Charlotte se convirtieron en himnos de una generación que encontró en Kittie una voz auténtica, cruda y sin filtros.

Kittie delivered a fierce sound that blended nu metal, groove metal, and hardcore. There’s no doubt that Spit was the album that opened the doors to the big stage for them. That album was an unexpected success, as sales figures far exceeded their wildest expectations. It then led them to tour alongside bands like Slipknot, Pantera, Korn, and other greats of that generation. Songs like “Brackish” and “Charlotte” became anthems for a generation that found in Kittie an authentic, raw, and unfiltered voice.

De seguro no sabían que la banda fue moldeando su sonido en diferentes álbumes hasta encontrarnos con Fire un álbum que fue estrenado hace dos años lo impresionante es que estas niñas siguen creciendo con la misma actitud de cuando eran adolescentes. Ahora, con un sonido mucho más fuerte y limpio. Se dice que las chicas pueden estar estrenando nuevo álbum este mismo año mientras, podemos disfrutar de dos clásicos de la banda y de su ultimo single Fire

You probably didn't know that the band gradually refined their sound across different albums until they released Fire, an album that came out two years ago. What's impressive is that these girls continue to grow while maintaining the same attitude they had as teenagers. Now, they have a much stronger and cleaner sound. Rumor has it that the girls might release a new album this year, but in the meantime, we can enjoy two of the band's classics and their latest single, Fire.
