Comedian: So...The other day, I was at a party, I start hooking up with a girl.
She is looking fine and all, and suddenly we start making out, I see where this is going.
Then she asks me if I am cool with it. I am like "cool with what?".
And then he tells me "I am a trans".

(crowd dead silent)

Comedian: You know what's a tranny? It's a woman with a dick. I was making out with a woman with a dick...

(Silence intensifies)

Comedian: Why you guys are dead silent? Jeez this audience is as dead as on the 13th of November (makes reference to the Paris attacks at the Bataclan where armed terrorist opened fire on the crowd).

Crowd: Fuck you! Get out.

(Comedian walks off stage)

So, this was the atmosphere at 11pm on a Friday night, just before I get on stage. I could hear how bad he was doing from the "artist room" backstage, which constists of a tiny mirror, and jam packed props, bags, curtains.

I brought my own bottle of water. I smoked a spliff at least an hour ago and it starts wearing off, but now I don't have the time to roll another one because this bum of a comedian is going to be crucified on stage, so I am getting ready to go.

This is when that small internal voice sink in, asking "why in hell did I decide to do a gig in Paris anyway?".

I just drove 800km (400 miles roughly) the day before, and I am leaving tomorrow. The crowd is a mix of a few friends, and family I haven't seen for ages, roughly 9 people.
The rest if the crowd isn't mine. They're here to watch acts before me, and after. I am just a mere transition from one act to the next. I have 45 minutes to convince myself that I am a great singer, If I can convince myself, I can convince them. I am still focused though, I made sure I was ready for this gig, I know my set, I didn't touch a beer for the last 2 weeks, just to make sure that my voice would be on point.
The day before my sister asked "Are you a part of a cult or something?", as if not wanting to drink is something almost unnatural.

(Feedback sound)

I start the song, but I thank the 9 people that came to see me, thank them for being patient wih me, I also sound apologetic for having witnessed this dreadful comedian with his shitty tranny joke.

L'Etage, the place I am playing, have survived the last 15 years. Which is more than most establishments can say in Paris. They survived the pandemic, they survived a change in ownership, and now they'll survive the next horror coming their way.

It's true that appart from the sojamsession organized every Friday nights, the rest of the week, it's a lot of trannies and drag queen shows. That's something I am not familiar with anymore, I was used to it 15 years ago when performing in Paris, because this is the capital of those sort of things, so I became desensetized,

I am being told by the event organizer that "it's everywhere now, and that's what the audience wants. Drag Queen shows."

I shrug.

"You see, they don't have kids, so they just party all week, normally we can fill up 300 people in here, this is madness."

I can imagine the madness. Anyway, during the intro of my song, all I can think about is the tranny joke, the fact that nobody announced me on stage, that I haven't peformed at this place for 15 years, and that after spending gazillion in promotion, only 9 of my people came for me, and that music cannot fill up places anymore.

Lucky for me that night, a Nigerian singer called Chidi EP and his crew started really getting my songs, and reversed the mood by motivating the crowd. I am thankful to him, I am probably lucky that he was playing after me, he was probably so hyped up to go on stage.

He also did great, we both did. We were probably the best acts that night, I am of course not being humble, but I guess, just let me have this one.

I tell the event organizer that he can keep the change, and refused the money he wanted to give me. The deal was for me to bring 20 people at least, which I didn't.

I still had a good time though. It was great to go back to Paris, and I am glad I wasn't that comedian.

Have you ever seen someone bombing on stage before?

I've seen comedians bomb, but never quite that spectacularly! Always helps to know the audience...

Hey Hugh! I kinda enjoy seeing comedian bomb, because it takes them out of their element, I like when they land on their feet. Not this time though haha...

There is a legendary bombing by Bill Burr in Phili:

Doesn't get old!

It had to be nerve-wracking to follow a guy who's supposed to be funny, but isn't. After he got booed off of the stage you may have been thinking this is a rough crowd I wonder how I'll make out.

From watching the video it looks like you killed it. Having the artist that followed you getting into your performance had to make you feel great. You can see and hear your attitude pick up as they got into your music.

Wonderful performance my friend. What's next?

Thanks! It was hard to keep them focused for 45 minutes, but the first few songs were good! Then I really wanted to shorten the songs a bit, as there was another act after me, and people were waiting to see him perform!

Wonderful performance my friend. What's next?

I truly appreciate it! Well, I don't know we'll see, I am looking for gigs in other towns now, we're waiting for some answers. In the meantime a lot of gardening! Lot's of homeschooling! Lot's of driving!

I am sure you're busy with the end of winter that seems to be lingering a bit on your side?

It sounds like you are about to get very busy, homeschooling in itself is a full-time
job. I hope the other towns you're looking to perform at are a little bit closer than the 400 miles you traveled for this last gig. You may also want to make sure that your performance doesn't follow a comedian.

Still lots of snow on the ground which may put gardening back a few weeks, but we will be starting our indoor seeds as soon as they arrive.

Good luck with your garden my friend.

I've just been offered another one on Tuesday in Paris and it's not worth it.

Yeah you're right, something closer haha.

Good luck with your garden my friend.

I am so late this season! It feel like I am going in slow motion!

Good luck with your garden too, I wish I could borrow your skills on the farm here.

As much as it has got to be fun to perform in front of a live audience, a few bucks in the pocket after the gig, I'm sure would be nice. Business decisions can be tough to make.

I wish I could borrow some of your potatoes.😁

Late start here also, still have snow on the ground.

Ouch! That was a big fail by that comedian! I have seen them bomb before but I never had to take the stage right after that. Must be a tough spot to be in!

But I think you turned the table nicely! Great performance man! What kind of guitar is that? I love it but cannot recognize the brand or builder.

By the way, have you ever heard about Threads? It's a cool platform on Hive where you can engage with other users and also give more visibility to your content. I'm trying to get more discussions about music going on there and it would be great to have you! And the best part is that @uwelang has a nice stack of Leo Power to curate #music content on Threads!

Wow that was quite a bad bomb indeed, funny that reading how bad he bombed made me laugh out loud. You got some fantastic shots of Paris here. Driving 400 miles is pretty intense.

The music is sounding fantastic as always, I love the beatboxing and getting the crowd to participate, great work bro! A very well-deserved round of applause at the end.

Hello there!

Driving 400 miles is pretty intense.

Yeaaaaaaaah! Especially my car is beeping, so it beeps for the entire trip and it gets me a little kookoo. The only thing that works, is drowning the sound with music super loud.

The music is sounding fantastic as always, I love the beatboxing and getting the crowd to participate, great work bro! A very well-deserved round of applause at the end.

Thanks mate, I didn't feel like I did great after the gig, but all in all, it wasn't that bad!

Tough to take the stage after the bomb of the comedian, but I thought your performance was terrific. Keep working it, you are very talented.

Premièrement, a tranny is short for transvestite or cross dresser (travlo en français) so with a dick, but not a woman, while a trans or transgender has had his dick sliced and diced in order to pretend he's a she...which he will never be. So, not a woman with a dick🤣🤣 What a fucked up dude! All part of the American Trans Agenda💩

Deuxièmement, t'étais fantastique mon ami👏👏👏👏👏 Et le Nigerien qui se déchaîne juste génial!🙌 !LUV ton vibe!🤩

It's a very interesting convo 😄

Whatever rock their boat ya know, I ain't surprised of that shit because there were already some in Paris 20 years ago, so it makes sense there's a lil more of that today.

The whole drag show in libraries in US (and also in France now, in Toulouse apparently) is a different story, but are we even allowed to have that conversation or...

Merci!

RIEN!!
