Jam Genres over Default Ringtones-Afri-inleo initiative 17
The first phone I owned had these loving ringtones in them, I could play them over and over again without getting bored. It was in 2008 when phones weren't this rampant, owning a small Torchlight Nokia phone then was a privilege everyone desired. Smartphones were rare then, so I cherished those I had and couldn't wait to play those tunes around my friends in order to tell them I could operate the phone to a point where I can play songs. My choices then were limited and I felt default tones were all one needed to get the best of a ringing tone, not until 2011 when I was given a smartphone by my Aunty.
I realized it has many more functionalities than the previous phone I owned and this started to shape my choices of everything including the ringing tones. It felt much more different that I can listen to my favorite song every time someone calls and this became the point where the love of ringtones started to fade. I had to cut tiles with my previous love (the default ringtone) and formed a new tile with my new found love (jams in my phone). Smartphones give a platform to choose between two options, to either stay with the default ringtones or select from the several genres of music that I have.
There are several reasons why I preferred jams from my phone. One of the reasons was the similarity of ringtone by several phone owners. Sometimes I assume my call to be someone's call and someone's call to be mine. The ringtone became common and there was no flaunting, I fell in love with certain musics and I loved to hear them play whenever my phone rings, and finally, it was more entertaining to listen to a jam as a ringtone than the default tones which gradually become a noise with their high pitch chords.
When I started to put music as my ringtone, certain things about my behavior with handling phones changed. I started to anticipate calls, I knew my unique song which I had selected as my ringtone, it was soft and felt more mature. It became my new style of flaunting especially when the song was trending. Changing of jams for ringtone was a way to keep the ringtone section lively with new songs and new trending music in the music industry and the list of music to use was unlimited compared to the default ringtone which had limited supply.
So here are why I choose jam over Default ringtones:
1.Default ringtones are limited, just a few selected tones that have sounds of animals or random voices unlike music Jams which have an unlimited choice of music to select from.
2.I can pick music that has a certain impact or has meaning to me unlike the default ringtones that are only the sound of nature , random animals, or objects.
3.The similarity of ringtones by many phone owners was one of my discouraging factors. Imagine using a tone that more than 6 persons are using. Being unique is fine and to be unique, I have chosen Jam over Default ringtones.
