Became a jury in the Youth level Poetry Musicalization Competition

Hi everyone, how are you today? , Must be fun right? I wish you good health, and have fun.
Today is the time for me to share my experience as one of the judges at the poetry musical festival held in Banda Aceh, at the superior school SMAN 10 Fajar Harapan.

This event was named Pascal or an abbreviation of the 11th Parade Of Art, Science and Religion (PASCAL) at the school, in which there were many competitions contested from all high school level schools. Among them are competitions for reading poetry, solo vocals, musicalization, solo guitar, MTQ, lectures, nasyid, creative dance, quizzes, and others.

My two friends and I tried to choose the best 3 out of 20 participants who were present to take part in this high school level poetry musicalization event. These two friends of mine are my seniors in the field of music and poetry, the first is Mr. Zulfikar, he is an artist who has been doing art for a long time, he is a poet, poetry reader, and has his own poetry musical group. The second is Mr. Aidil, he has a degree in arts in music, plays classical guitar, teaches in public schools for art subjects, and teaches at a music school in my city.

On the last occasion I had the opportunity to explain what is musical poetry and various tips "how to make musical poetry easily" where there are 5 tips that I will give, namely:

1. Determination of poetry
2. The description of the contents of the poem (interpretation)
3. Creating rhythm or musical accompaniment
4. Align between vocals and music
5. Presenting the musicalization of poetry.

And now, when I become a judge, I practice all of these tips into the concept of judging, where there are 4 categories that are important when becoming a judge, namely:

1. Correct interpretation of poetry.
   The process of thinking regularly in finding the hidden meaning of the meaning that appears in a fold of poetry is called poetry interpretation. When the participant misinterpreted the poem, he was wrong in finding the right song for the poem. And here lies the process of harmonizing the song with the character of the poem chosen by the participants.
   

2. Great vocals.
   There are 2 categories of vocals in the musicalization of poetry, the first is the vocalist who sings the song from the poem, and the second category is the poetry reader in the performance.
   The singer in the musicalization of poetry must be clear in singing, and not fals, he must follow the tone of the music being played, and be regular at the tempo of the song being sung by the musicians. When that can't be done it detracts from the value of the performance.
   Likewise with poetry readers, they must be clear in reading poetry, live every word that is read, and understand the essence of the poetry they read. The expression, appreciation, and rhythm of the poem must be precise, not exaggerated or exaggerated. When a poem is sad, one has to read it slowly and seems to want to cry, but when the poem is happy, one must also read it with a smile.

3. Original music composition
   Presentation The musical composition in the musicalization of poetry must follow from the poetry sung, when the poem has a happy theme, the music must also be happy, and vice versa. And in this competition, the musical composition must be original music. Music cannot be plagiarized from existing music and made by other people, or plagiarized other people's music.

1. High creativity
   Creativity in the musicalization of poetry is the ability of participants to create something new, whether it includes the use of new musical instruments, new rhythms, new costumes, props, performance and other things in a performance. High creativity will give high value to the participants who take part in the competition.

This competition was won by participants from SMA Negeri 3 Banda Aceh with a score of 800, because they were the best participants and ran almost all the categories from the assessment that I described earlier, in the end they were entitled to a trophy and coaching money for their hard work.
