INTRODUCCIÓN

En primer lugar quiero aclarar que el bajo el término “Rock” pueden estar vinculado varios subgéneros musicales o derivados que van desde la música alternativa, pop, blues, rock and roll, funk, progresivo, folk, incluyendo el ska, reggae y dub entre otros, hago esta aclaratoria para que algunos puristas no se sientan ofendidos por tal generalización, tomando en cuenta que el “Rock Latinoamericano” o todo lo que se produce en el sur de américa se puede tomar esa libertad de estar influenciado por diferentes estilos, aun cuando no pertenezcan al género del rock.

Por otro lado las apreciaciones aquí presentadas son opiniones de experiencias a lo largo de mis descubrimientos melómanos, que no necesariamente pueden estar expuestos cronológicamente con la trayectoria de las bandas o intérpretes, más bien están enfocados a una visión subjetiva de cómo yo he ido abordando y asimilando todo este legado musical sureño.

INTRODUCTION

First of all I want to clarify that under the term "Rock" can be linked several musical subgenres or derivatives ranging from alternative music, pop, blues, rock and roll, funk, progressive, folk, including ska, reggae and dub among others, I make this clarification so that some purists do not feel offended by such generalization, taking into account that the "Latin American Rock" or everything that is produced in South America can take the freedom to be influenced by different styles, even if they do not belong to the genre of rock.

On the other hand, the appreciations presented here are opinions of experiences throughout my music discoveries, which may not necessarily be chronologically exposed with the trajectory of the bands or performers, rather they are focused on a subjective vision of how I have been approaching and assimilating all this southern musical legacy.

Parte I

Desde que comencé en este fascinante mundo de la música como melómano y luego como músico y compositor siempre sentí una gran admiración por la música sureña, me refiero específicamente al Rock Argentino, en especial a una serie de músicos legendarios que han influenciado mis gustos musicales y manera de componer; hoy quiero hacer una pequeña introducción a modo personal de este enfoque que he llamado “crónicas” basado en mi experiencia a lo largo de estos descubrimientos musicales que han llegado a mí en un orden particular; en especial quiero expresar lo que para mí significan tales músico, que con extraordinaria brillantez nos han influenciado a una gran cantidad de músicos latinoamericanos de varias generaciones.

Part I

Since I started in this fascinating world of music as a music lover and then as a musician and composer, I always felt a great admiration for southern music, specifically Argentine Rock, especially a series of legendary musicians that have influenced my musical tastes and way of composing; today I want to make a small introduction in a personal way of this approach that I have called "chronicles" based on my experience along these musical discoveries that have come to me in a particular order; especially I want to express what for me mean such musicians, who with extraordinary brilliance have influenced a great number of Latin American musicians of several generations.

Es casi una referencia obligada, para muchos músicos escuchar algunos álbumes de los siguientes intérpretes sureños. Charly García, Luis Alberto Spinetta, Fito Páez, Pedro Aznar, Gustavo Cerati, solo por nombrar algunos; también bandas legendarias como Sumo, Divididos, Los Redondos, Fabulosos Cadillac entre otros; por supuesto que hay muchos más, sin embargo haré una selección personal de los álbumes que más han influenciado mi vida como músico y melómano.

It is almost an obligatory reference, for many musicians, to listen to some albums of the following southern performers. Charly García, Luis Alberto Spinetta, Fito Páez, Pedro Aznar, Gustavo Cerati, just to name a few; also legendary bands such as Sumo, Divididos, Los Redondos, Fabulosos Cadillac among others; of course there are many more, however I will make a personal selection of the albums that have most influenced my life as a musician and music lover.

Comenzaré por Charly García quien es la figura más importante para mí, al menos fue el primero de los argentinos que descubrí en mi adolescencia y que aún sigo escuchando y admirando con el mismo interés, desde joven pude comprar sus discos e incluso tuve la oportunidad de verlo tocar en “sus años más lúcidos y productivos” aunque este comentario puede ser relativamente cuestionable siendo Charly un músico bastante inquieto y controversial; en mi juventud primero llegaron los temas más comerciales, todos esos éxitos que sonaban en la radio, los hit más movidos me deslumbraron con sus ritmos pop rock, rápidamente adquirí sus disco y descubrí una serie de temas menos comunes y movidos, estilos que ahondan en las baladas y temas con influencias progresivas, jazz e incluso tangos; al principio no los asimilé con tanta admiración quizás debido a mi inmadurez musical, pero más tarde estos temas se convirtieron en una indiscutible referencia para mí, lo que representan verdaderas obras de culto.

I will start with Charly García who is the most important figure for me, at least he was the first Argentinean I discovered in my adolescence and who I still listen to and admire with the same interest, since I was young I was able to buy his records and even had the opportunity to see him play in "his most lucid and productive years" although this comment may be relatively questionable being Charly a very restless and controversial musician; in my youth first came the most commercial songs, all those hits that sounded on the radio, the most moving hits dazzled me with their pop rock rhythms, I quickly acquired his records and discovered a series of less common and moving songs, styles that delve into ballads and songs with progressive influences, jazz and even tangos; at first I did not assimilate them with so much admiration perhaps due to my musical immaturity, but later these songs became an indisputable reference for me, which represent true works of worship.

Charly no solo es un extraordinario músico, compositor e intérprete, también es productor musical y es su haber cuenta con una gran cantidad de excelentes producciones discográficas; hablaremos de algunas de estas, en primer lugar hay que mencionar el álbum "Clics Modernos" del año 1983, es el segundo álbum como solista y para muchos es uno de los más aclamados por la crítica y los medios; sin embargo yo tengo mis preferencias, especialmente por el álbum "Piano Bar" tercer trabajo del año 1984, siento que es un trabajo más contundente en cuanto a la fuerza de la banda, además de ser una producción con mucho carácter y temas muy importantes y crudos en cuanto a la dureza del rock se refiere; aquí el álbum completo en YouTube: (1)

A diferencia Clics Moderno que si bien es un trabajo con una excelente producción, es un concepto mucho más elaborado en laboratorio (según mi percepción) que contó con la inclusión de máquinas y toda la tecnología de la época, además de la participación de excelentes músicos de sesión. Charly is not only an extraordinary musician, composer and performer, he is also a music producer and he has a lot of excellent recordings to his credit; we will talk about some of these, first of all we must mention the album "Clics Modernos" from 1983, it is the second album as a soloist and for many it is one of the most acclaimed by critics and the media; however I have my preferences, especially for the album "Piano Bar" third work of the year 1984, I feel that it is a more forceful work in terms of the strength of the band, besides being a production with a lot of character and very important and raw themes as far as the hardness of rock is concerned; here is the complete album on YouTube: (1)

In contrast to Clics Moderno, which although it is a work with an excellent production, it is a much more elaborate concept in a laboratory (according to my perception) that counted with the inclusion of machines and all the technology of the time, in addition to the participation of excellent session musicians. Hay muchos discos de Charly en su etapa solista que me apasionan, me encantan todos, cada uno con sus particularidades y estilos, si hiciéramos un "Top Ten" (según mi preferencia) de los mejores álbumes de Charly, la lista y sus características sería la siguiente:

There are many of Charly's solo albums that I love, I love them all, each one with its own particularities and styles, if we were to make a "Top Ten" (according to my preference) of Charly's best albums, the list and its characteristics would be the following:

If we propose to open a Cátedra to analyze and appreciate all of Charly's works, we would fall short, there is so much to listen to over and over again, to appreciate, to observe, etc. All his genius when composing, harmonics, melodies and rhythms, all that particular aesthetics and sonority; besides the concept that he prints to each production, in general Charly's world is a great work, his lyrics, music, image, performance, aesthetic concept, etc. I want to make clear that these are my appreciations, I do not pretend to make a chronological catalog of his works (for that there is the internet and specialized documents) I will also leave a link of interest here:
