Heart-touching songs accompanying the moon

China Blue

On Mid-Autumn Festival, apart from barbecuing, eating mooncakes, peeling pomelos, and moon-gazing, what else can you do? Well, there are plenty of activities to choose from. For those who love to sing, heading to a KTV (karaoke) can be a fantastic option. It's not only a great way to hang out with friends and bond but also a chance to belt out a tune, unwind, and relieve stress. If you happen to have a captivating voice and sing well, it can bring immense joy and a sense of accomplishment.

As for songs themed around the moon, there are plenty of them in both Eastern and Western music traditions. First, the ever-changing phases of the moon can symbolize the passage of time. This can evoke feelings of solitude, loss, happiness, reunions, and prompt reflections on the meaning of life. It's a wonderful theme for songs with deep and symbolic meanings. Additionally, moonlight creates a mysterious and romantic ambiance at night. The mystery and the unknown often pique people's curiosity, making it a great backdrop for songs filled with fantasy and mystique. The moon is also frequently used to convey emotions of love, longing, and desire.

Here are a few beautiful songs related to the moon that you might have heard before. They carry a special atmosphere, especially when listened to during the Mid-Autumn Festival, but they are enchanting at any time.

"City Moonlight" by Mavis Hee

"City Moonlight" is one of the signature songs of Singaporean singer Mavis Hee. She is one of the pillars of the Hua Yin record label and is renowned as the Queen of Mandarin Pop. In the midst of the hustle and bustle of the city, in a quiet corner, she gazes up at the moonlight in the city all by herself. Mavis Hee's melodious and delicate voice seems to be narrating the ordinary yet touching stories of the city.

"Moonlight" by Cyndi Wang

When people think of Cyndi Wang, they probably picture the innocent and sweet girl in a schoolgirl skirt, dancing with light steps, singing as the sweetheart of the pop music world. Similarly, Cyndi Wang's rendition of "Moonlight" also exudes that sweet and romantic feeling. She sings about the innocent and romantic notions of a young girl in love and the courage to face both love and heartbreak.

"Yellow Moon" by Tarcy Su

Tarcy Su is often associated with the image of an innocent girl-next-door, and her debut as a pop idol immediately attracted a large number of male fans. Under the packaging of her record company, she exuded that sweet and girlish vibe. However, in the song "Yellow Moon," it seems like Selina is expressing her true self. The chorus of the song goes, "I yearn for extreme freedom, I yearn for boundless horizons, I yearn for carefree days and nights, I don't want you to be infatuated with me, it's not easy to fall in love with me, I don't think you'll understand my emotional wavelength." It's as if Selina is singing that she is actually an independent and thoughtful modern woman who can take action.

"Yellow Moon" by Wu Bai & China Blue

This song was written by the Rock King of Taiwan, Wu Bai, for Selina of S.H.E. Wu Bai also performed a rock version of this song at his concert. Wu Bai's charismatic stage presence and raspy voice added an even more wild and free-spirited interpretation to the song, making it even more liberating and carefree.

"Moon's Mischievous Deed" by Zhang Yu

I heard that the background of this song is that the singer Zhang Yu and his wife suddenly decided to elope in Canada. However, when facing media inquiries about the reason for their sudden marriage, they couldn't come up with a clear explanation. Then, Zhang Yu remembered that the moon on their wedding day was particularly round. So, he asked his wife, who happens to be his dedicated lyricist Eleven Lang, to write the lyrics for this song. They attributed all the reasons for their elopement to the moon, as if the moon had caused the mischief. This phrase, "Moon's Mischievous Deed," is quite handy and serves as a good excuse for making mistakes.

"Runaway to the Moon" by Mayday feat. Cheer Chen

Mayday is a Taiwanese superband that has enjoyed a successful career since their debut. They've produced numerous bestselling classic songs. The lyrics go, "One, two, three, holding hands; four, five, six, lift your head up high; seven, eight, nine, let's run away to the moon." It's about breaking free from the confines of Earth and even escaping to the moon. This song encapsulates the fearless pursuit of love, and it's a romantic duet between a man and a woman. Let's sing our way into a unique space romance.

The songs mentioned above may not be recent, but that's because I don't listen to Mandarin songs very often. These songs have been around for a while, and I'm quite familiar with them. In reality, there are so many beautiful moon-themed songs, and they always have the power to touch our hearts and make us feel the magic of music.
