CHANGA TUKI: ¿Qué es? (ESP/ENG)

¿Habías escuchado sobre la Changa Tuki o el Raptor House? Posiblemente si, pero tal vez no eras consiente de ello. Es justo lo que me pasó a mi, es por eso que en este post le quiero contar a esta comunidad como ha sido mi experiencia con este genero musical.

Have you ever heard of the Changa Tuki or the Raptor House? Possibly yes, but maybe you were not aware of it. That's exactly what happened to me, that's why in this post I want to tell this community about my experience with this musical genre.

La changa tuki (y el Raptor House) en un genero musical bailable que nació en Caracas, Venezuela en la década de los 90 y se volvió popular gracias a los matinées que realizaban en la época.

The changa tuki (and Raptor House) is a dance music genre that was born in Caracas, Venezuela in the 90's and became popular thanks to the matinées that took place at the time.

Básicamente es una discoteca para adolescentes, fueron lugares muy populares entre los 90 y los 2000. Iban jóvenes generalmente entre 11-17 años para escuchar música y bailar sin tener que colarse a una discoteca de forma ilegal, además de que en estos lugares no se vendían bebidas alcohólicas. Era muy común en la época ir a un matiné con tus amigos después de clases, sin embargo, estos lugares se fueron cerrando poco a poco debido a los diferentes conflictos ocurridos durante las fiestas.

Basically a discotheque for teenagers, they were very popular places between the 90s and 2000s. Young people generally between 11-17 years old went there to listen to music and dance without having to sneak into a discotheque illegally, besides these places did not sell alcoholic beverages. It was very common at the time to go to a matinee with your friends after school, however, these places were gradually closed due to the various conflicts that occurred during the parties.

Hay diferentes opiniones sobre este genero. Por un lado se creía que solo aquellos de clase baja o media baja eran quienes lo escuchaban, por lo cual es termino ¨Tuki¨ se vio relacionado a personas de bajos recursos que cometían delitos. Pero originalmente este termino era utilizado para referirse a aquellas personas que participaban en las batallas de baile de changa tuki o para aquellos que optaban por utilizar una vestimenta colorida y diferente.

Por otro lado, muchas personas pensaban que el ir a un lugar a divertirte y bailar con tus amigos era la mejor forma de alejar a los jóvenes de las calles.

There are different opinions about this genre. On the one hand it was believed that only those of lower or lower middle class were those who listened to it, which is why the term "Tuki" was related to people of low income who committed crimes. But originally this term was used to refer to those people who participated in the changa tuki dance battles or for those who chose to wear colorful and different clothing.

On the other hand, many people thought that going to a place to have fun and dance with your friends was the best way to keep young people off the streets.

La changa tuki tuvo un fuerte impacto en su momento, algunos de los bailarines más conocidos del genero fundaron sus propias academias de baile y otros llegaron a bailar junto con artistas reconocidos. Con el tiempo, la changa tuki fue reconocida de forma internacional y hasta hay dj´s que fueron invitados a festivales al rededor del mundo

The changa tuki had a strong impact at the time, some of the best known dancers of the genre founded their own dance academies and others came to dance with renowned artists. Over time, the changa tuki was recognized internationally and there are even dj's who were invited to festivals around the world.

La época de oro de la changa tuki culmina cuando se ve un aumento en los delitos cometidos en los matiné, entre estos casos de robo y homicidio, además de que siempre provocó mucho furor en la boca de las personas al ser un lugar para menores de edad. Actualmente, no conozco ningún matiné que se mantenga activo. Pero si tienes algún familiar o conoces a alguien de Venezuela mayor de 28 años probablemente esa persona sepa o haya escuchado sobre la Changa Tuki o el nombre de DJ BABA.

The golden age of the changa tuki ends when there is an increase in the crimes committed in the matinee, among these cases of robbery and homicide, in addition to the fact that it always caused a lot of furor in the mouths of the people because it was a place for minors. Currently, I don't know of any matinee that is still active. But if you have a family member or know someone in Venezuela older than 28 years probably that person knows or has heard about the Changa Tuki or the name of DJ BABA.
