Welcome back to my blog, guys! Today I bring you the continuation of my musical review showing songs that are part of the Cuban Timba and Rumba, all in order to analyze the songs of the next competition in which I will participate very soon, as an exercise I have set myself the fact of listening to these songs to be able to train my ear to recognize the type of rhythm to interpret and improvise my steps.
So, without further ado.... let's get started!
¡Bienvenidos de nuevo a mi blog, chicos! El día de hoy les traigo la continuación de mi reseña musical mostrando canciones que forman parte de la Timba Cubana y la Rumba, todo con el fin de ir analizando las canciones de la próxima competencia en la que voy a participar muy pronto, como ejercicio me he puesto el hecho de escuchar estas canciones para poder ir entrenando mi oído para reconocer el tipo de ritmo para poder interpretar e improvisar mis pasos.
Así que, sin más que agregar... ¡comencemos!
1.- ¿De Qué Estamos Hablando? - Elito Revé y Su Charangón
We begin this review with a good Timba, I could even say that it goes towards Changüí because of the type of cadence it has (for those who understand the world of dance in Latin rhythms), even though it has a lot of accentuation in the beats of Son (beat 8 and beat 4) it has that fluid and tasty rhythm that invites you to dance.
I love how the lyrics of this type of songs often do not make much sense, it is simply a chorus that is repeated many times and invites us to dance, basically it is a lyric that talks about the singer is showing off, it would be like the analogy of a "represent" in rap, or a song to demonstrate your level within the genre.
Something that fascinates me about Timba is the fact that many times it seems that there are several songs in one, it has like rhythmic stages that invite you to dance, sometimes they tell you stories and other times they just do this, but at all times it is enjoyable.
Comenzamos esta reseña con una buena Timba, inclusive podría decir que va hacia el Changüí por el tipo de cadencia que tiene (para entendidos del mundo de la danza en ritmos latinos), a pesar de que tiene mucha acentuación en los tiempos de Son (tiempo 8 y tiempo 4) tiene ese ritmo fluído y sabroso que te invita a bailar.
Me encanta como las letras de este tipo de canciones muchas veces no tienen mucho sentido, simplemente es un estribillo que se repite muchas veces y nos invitan a bailar, básicamente es una letra que habla de que el cantante se está luciendo, sería como la analogía de un "represent" en el rap, o una canción para demostrar tu nivel dentro del género.
Algo que me fascina de la Timba es el hecho de que muchas veces pareciera que fueran varias canciones en una, tiene como etapas rítmicas que te van invitando a bailar, a veces te cuentan historias y otras veces solo hacen esto, pero en todo momento es disfrutable.
2.- A la Pelota - Nic N'Taya, El Micha
This song is a Timba in all its magnificence, just the way it starts tells you the cadence, it sounds the piano, the güiro, the clave and the bass to tell you that the timba begins and then enters with the trumpets, this is one of the best I have been able to dance in class.
The lyrics make me laugh, because it talks about how many women are interested and the singers tell us that it is not really necessary to have so much money because in the end when you get intimate with them you are not going to be wearing the clothes you want to impress her with, I also see this song as a criticism of that stereotype of interested women.
All the choruses of each stage of the song is very good and I find it very curious that they put a baseball theme but the song really has nothing to do with sports, so it is like a fun release to criticize interested women because in the end they can still give in even if you don't have a lot of money or fame.
Esta canción es una Timba en toda su magnificencia, nada más la manera en cómo empieza te dice la cadencia, suena el piano, el güiro, la clave y el bajo para decirte que comienza la timba para luego entra con las trompetas, esta es de las mejores que he podido bailar en clases.
La letra me da mucha risa, porque habla de cómo muchas mujeres son interesadas y los cantantes nos hablan de que no hace falta realmente tener tanto dinero porque al final cuando intimas con ellas no vas a estar usando la ropa con la que quieres impresionarla, también esta canción la veo como una crítica a ese estereotipo de mujeres interesadas.
Todos los estribillos de cada etapa de la canción es muy buena y me parece muy curioso que le pusieron como una temática de béisbol pero realmente no tiene nada que ver la canción con el deporte, por lo que es como un descargue de diversión para criticar a las mujeres interesadas porque al final igual pueden ceder aunque tú no tengas mucho dinero o fama.
3.- A La Rumba - Papucho y Manana Club
The third selected song of today is a live performance that really left me quite impressed, because I love how the lead singer's voice invites you to dance too tasty; within the Latin rhythms, especially the Cuban ones, the Rumba is very present, which is a genre that, in a particular way, is like a rhythm to interact with a person to try to conquer her, within the Cuban culture it would be of the man looking to woo the woman.
I love the way the coros sound live, the coritas are very good and maintain that powerful cadence while the lead singer performs the pregón (the improvised interpretation of verses during the song).
Something I have learned during my training is that the song itself tells us what it wants us to interpret, for example the singer tells us to move our waist, or tells us a story to interpret it at any time, as for example when she says "I have rumba to warm up all this, at the time you call me I do not bother" as if to tell the person you are courting that you are totally available, it is a matter of paying attention to the lyrics at the time of dancing.
La tercera canción selecta de hoy es una presentación en vivo que realmente me dejó bastante impresionado, porque me encanta el cómo la voz de la cantante principal te invita a bailar demasiado sabroso; dentro de los ritmos latinos, sobretodo los cubanos, está muy presente la Rumba, el cuál es un género que, de forma particular, es como un ritmo para interactuar con una persona para tratar de conquistarla, dentro de la cultura cubana sería del hombre buscando cortejar a la mujer.
Me encanta cómo suenan los coros en vivo, los coritas son muy buenos y mantienen esa cadencia poderosa mientras la cantante principal realiza el pregón (la interpretación improvisada de versos durante la canción).
Algo que he aprendido durante mis entrenamientos es que la misma canción nos dice qué quiere que interpretemos, por ejemplo la cantante nos dice que movamos la cintura, o nos cuenta una historia para interpretarlo en cualquier momento, como por ejemplo cuando nos dice "yo tengo rumba para calentar todo esto, a la hora que tú me llames no me molesto" como para decirle a la persona que estás cortejando que estás totalmente disponible, es cuestión de prestarle atención a la letra al momento de bailar.
Bonus Track.- Decir Asere - Billy Cobham and Asere
To finish, I bring you this final song that you can notice from the first moment you click on the play button that it is a Rumba song, because the first thing you hear is the clave, that instrument that sounds "pa pa pa pa pa pa pa pa pa" with dry sounds.
On this occasion, the lyrics talk about the idioms in the language of the Cubans, since the word asere comes from their slang and lexicon, maybe you listen to the song and you do not fully understand, but as you listen to the song, the singer is explaining the whole context.
I really love the emphasis on the cadence of many particular moments, where the drums, trumpets, guitars and bass synchronize to give us particular beats to interpret, it is a great work that deserves to be heard and danced to.
Para terminar, les traigo esta canción final que se nota desde el primer momento en el que le damos click al botón de play que es una canción de Rumba, porque lo primero que escuchamos es la clave, ese instrumento que suena "pa pa paú pa pá" con sonidos secos.
En esta ocasión, la letra habla de los modimos en el lenguaje de los cubanos, ya que la palabra asere proviene de su jerga y su léxico, tal vez escuches la canción y no entiendas del todo, pero a medida que escuchas la canción, el cantante te va explicando todo el contexto.
Me encanta mucho el énfasis en la cadencia de muchos momentos particulares, donde la batería, las trompetas, las guitarras y el bajo se sincronizan para darnos golpes particulares para interpretar, es una gran obra que merece ser escuchada y bailada.
