AFRO-MUSIC... The soul of African music.

IMAGE DESIGNED USING CANVA

What would the world be like without music? I wouldn't want to imagine that, let alone be in such a world. As infants at an early age get attracted to the sound of music, this is also a demonstration of how music is part of the world and especially imbedded in us humans.

Interestingly, one may wonder how music ends up being classified into genres such as pop, rock, rock and roll, country, Afro-music, jazz, etc.
Of course, these are genres that an individual may find favoritism toward, or there may be fewer others who like just any genre of music.

Music can be a part of a lot of phases and moments in our lives. It can blend with moments, as there are music genres that can suit moments like our times for meditation or needing some quiet or solace. Some are suitable for periods of discussion, and some for loud or happy moments of celebration.

As much as there are different genres of music, one may tend to find it difficult to place songs and music of different kinds into a specific genre, as it is again very easy for some other songs or kinds of music to be classified.

In Nigeria, where I come from, music has been a significant part of our culture for both rural and urban duelers.
In rural communities, especially in the times of old, music in the form of songs was sung by groups of people while they carried out activities such as farming and hunting in the bushes after having a successful hunt. These songs are unique to these communities, and as time passes, such kinds of music get to serve as part of the identity of the culture of those communities.

This music, however, has been sung with typical rural and cultural expressions (attires and instruments), but significantly, these have transformed gradually from being just rural to a gradual modernization of both the sounds and the use of modern instruments.

As the way of life of my people keeps changing in its form, appearance, and acceptance of technology, so has the music. This has led to my country being at the forefront of introducing a new genre of music from our continent of Africa to the entire world called Afro-music.

In my country, Nigeria, Afro-music has been the common style and genre of secular music that has transcended from what, in its earlier stages, was seen as just a rural form of music to where it is recognized today as the "soul" of African music to the entire world.

Music in recent times has brought healing to the world as it has drawn people from different parts of the world to know of the existence of others.
Events such as music tours have also been a source of economic development in developed countries.

Music has also been incorporated into other forms of social development all over the world, especially in sports. In developed societies, music forms major parts of sports, such as during the finals of American football half-time shows, national basketball shows, and the Eurovision world competition.

Music is now an integral part of humanity, and this has been a slowly growing industry that has transformed gradually from small communities to going global. For sure, in a few years to come, it will have been as near and will have connected us much closer than the Internet is currently doing.

Thank you for reading, I look forward to your comments😊.
