For this week in My California I've been playing more guitar. Last time I covered my first song by the recent viral folk singer/songwriter sensation Oliver Anthony and this week I'm back covering him once again. Last time I covered 'Doggonit' and this week I'm going to cover '90 Some Chevy'. At first glance this might just seem like a simple song about an old truck, but actually, in a truly country way, it's a love song. He talks about that "darlin' of mine" and how she's even sweeter than that old truck and how he's gonna have to "get me a ring and, get it on it" aka ask her to marry him. Also I just love the imagery he brings when he's talking about loading up the truck with the dogs, a case of beer, and a fishing pole, and going down to the creek to listen to the croaking frogs. And then he says "ain't no telling where we'll go in the back of that 90 some chevy". Which is essentially doubling down on his long term commitment to his "darlin" by insinuating that in the future they'll be out there together going places in his old truck. So while at first this song might seem a little shallow, but with a little hillbilly translation, and a little thinking about it, it's actually pretty deep. And so now, without further ado... here is my cover of '90 Some Chevy"!
