The Sphere in Las Vegas is unlike anything you have ever seen

Such an amazing night

Let's talk about The Sphere. For those that don't know what it is, The Sphere is a one of a kind concert experience. It is a massive 366 foot tall and 516 foot wide spherical structure. It is the most technologically advanced venue in the entire world.

IMG_4287.jpg

My wife and I got there to the Sphere about 2 hours before the show was supposed to start. The U2 shows have been selling out, and this thing seats 20,000 people, so we had no idea how long it would take to get inside to our seats.

IMG_4283.jpg

I bought some joints when we first got to Vegas and smoked a strain called Love Machine by Cheech and Chong, and that got me pretty stoned, which made the entire experience so much cooler. When we got to the Sphere, we saw a dude that looked just like Bono and my wife and I just about lost it.

My wife grew up listening to U2 and they were the first concert she went to with her family back when she was little. We thought this dude was the real Bono and she was so excited that she would have the opportunity to take a picture with him before he got on stage and performed. Turns out he was a look alike and not the real Bono, but it was still pretty cool.

IMG_4291.jpg

We waited in the merch line to get some sweatshirts. The line moved pretty quickly, but we found out that it was a waste of time getting in the line outside to buy merch because they were selling the same merch inside all over the place.

The entrance was super cool and futuristic looking. It really set the tone for when we got inside, because the entire place looked like something straight out of a futuristic sci-fi movie. Even the security scanners were advanced. There were facial recognition cameras all over the place and you dont get patted down or anything because there is some advanced body scan system that you just past and it is able to scan your entire body to make sure you don't have anything you shouldnt. I am sure there are some people that are scared of this type of technology and think Big Brother is gonna use it against us, but this is all just part of advancing technology.

IMG_4292.jpg

One you get passed security, you pass through this entrance that is lit by blue hues of light and go up an escalator to the lobby. As you walk around, there is soft ethereal music playing that really adds to the futuristic ambience of the entire place.

IMG_4298.jpg

The lobby is an architectural marvel. It really was one of the coolest places I have ever been.

IMG_4302.jpg

Everywhere you looked was so cool. These pictures don't do it justice at all. It was hard to capture the scale of this place. The ceilings were so tall and it was unlike anything I had ever seen.

IMG_4304.jpg

IMG_4310.jpg

We face timed our daughter to show her how cool this place was. It was pretty cool for us to actually be there. My wife grew up pretty poor and the last 20 years or so of our marriage has been a struggle financially, so it was pretty overwhelming for us to be at the best venue in the entire world about to see one of the best concerts in existence. We were just so grateful to be able to afford this trip and spend the time together.

IMG_4313.jpg

We began making our way up to the top floor so we can get to our seats. One cool thing about this place is that every seat in the stadium has a good view of the show, so being up on the higher section just gets you a better view of the entire screen even though the stage is so far away.

IMG_4326.jpg

No matter where you looked, the place looked amazing. It really is a work of art. Whoever designed this place did a phenomenal job.

IMG_4334.jpg

This was looking down over the ledge from the top floor. It was just so cool looking.

IMG_4336.jpg

There were a few bars inside where you can order mixed drinks or beers and they were works of art as well.

IMG_4337.jpg

The entire place reminded me of something out of the movie The Fifth Element. They had concession stores where you could get water, sodas, chips or candy. There were no cashiers in there. They had stations where you set down the stuff you want and then it totals it all up for you and you can pay with Apple Pay or your card. No scanning or anything. It was so cool.

IMG_4347.jpg

OK, so now for the really cool part. Once you go through the doors from the lobby and get into the actual portion where the concert takes place, it is unreal. The screen is massive. Our TVs are 4K and look pretty good, but the screen is a 16K resolution and 160,000 square feet. That is pretty hard to wrap my head around how big this thing actually is. That tiny thing in the bottom of the picture is the stage that U2 performed on and the stage itself it pretty huge too, but when you are a few hundred feet up, it looks tiny.

IMG_4348.jpg

The concert starts inside of a silo or warehouse of some sort but the screen begins to break open and appears to let light in from the outside. But it really isnt the outside because it is dark outside. The lights are so bright on the screen that it actually simulates the sun. It was so cool.

IMG_4349.jpg

The sound was amazing as well. The Sphere has 167,000 speakers and they have the most advanced sound system that is able to focus the sound to each individual seat, so each seat sounds the same and there is no loss of quality no matter where you are.

IMG_4352.jpg

Normally when you are at a concert and far away from the stage, you barely see what is going on, but being far away from the stage here allows you to see everything that is going on within the massive screen. The stage has cameras all around it that beam the performers all over the screen, making them a hundred feet tall. I bet the view from the bottom layer around the stage was super cool as well. Seeing the band on stage with massive images of them all over the walls would have been so cool, but I liked being able to sit in my seat and enjoy the show instead of standing.

IMG_4355.jpg

The show was incredible. It was a visual masterpiece.

IMG_4357.jpg

I would have loved to do a couple grams of mushrooms before the show. It was a spiritual experience at times.

IMG_4358.jpg

This part tripped my brain out. I dont know how they were able to make a sphere appear to be a square that was getting closer and closer to you like it was trapping you in a box. It was wild.

IMG_4364.jpg

This was such a cool part. The visuals were like a kaleidoscope of colors and cool designs. I can only assume the people that came up with these visuals for the show were well versed in psychedelics.

IMG_4366.jpg

Bono seems to love Elvis because there were a lot of references to Elvis in the visuals and some of the stuff he was saying.

IMG_4368.jpg

IMG_4371.jpg

IMG_4374.jpg

IMG_4377.jpg

IMG_4381.jpg

IMG_4385.jpg

IMG_4395.jpg

This part was so cool. There was fire falling from the sky and then plumes of blue and purple smoke would go across the entire sphere.

IMG_4403.jpg

Towards the end of their normal concert set list, the screen was blue and it was like a bunch of bugs died and just landed on the screen. Once the screen was full of the dead bugs, they began playing their encore set list.

IMG_4406.jpg

The bugs went away and it was like the Sphere had opened up to reveal the Vegas skyline. It looked like we were outside.

IMG_4408.jpg

Then one by one, all of the buildings began to get deconstructed and all that was left was the desert before anything manmade was there.

IMG_4414.jpg

As they played, the sun was rising and setting over the Nevada desert.

IMG_4413.jpg

Then a sphere appeared in the desert and water began to rise. It reminded me of the flood from the bible and how throughout history, we have heard of the great floods that pretty much reset humanity's existence here on Earth.

IMG_4428.jpg

Then the Sphere began to turn and there was a portal that got closer and closer.

IMG_4432.jpg

As they played their final song for the night, the entire screen was filled with animals and bugs. It was probably my favorite part of the night.

IMG_4431.jpg

This was such a spiritual part of the show. I bet if I had been on mushrooms during this part, I would have had tears streaming down my face.

IMG_4438.jpg

I just started thinking about how amazing life is and how grateful I was to be able to experience this show.

IMG_4440.jpg

U2 is only doing 36 shows there at The Sphere, so for my wife and I to be able to attend this once in a lifetime show was such a blessing.

IMG_4444.jpg

Tickets were pretty expensive. I spent almost $1000 for two tickets but when you think about it, it isn't that bad of a deal to be able to witness history in the most advanced concert venue in the entire world.

IMG_4447.jpg

The Sphere is definitely a core memory for my wife and I. It was more than a concert. It was an experience that I will never forget. I loved that I could take my wife to see a band that played such an important role in her childhood. I never really listened to U2 much in my life, but they are an amazing band with a great message of love and peace. Much better than 99% of what is being played on the radio.

I have heard that they are looking at building another Sphere in Dubai. It is cool that this is just the beginning of how concerts will be in the future. It really was a once in a lifetime night for my wife and I.

That is one wicked venue! Seems like you were pretty far away from the stage but I love how they have the massive screens around so you can still see the stage and U2 clearly. The visual effects look really awesome, I imagine the vibe inside must have been incredible

Ya, we were far away from the stage but we had perfect seats to enjoy the entire thing. There really is no bad place to sit there because you always have an amazing view of what is going on.

Sphere seem to be a very interesting concert for them to have about 2000 audiences
That’s a lot!
