R.E.M. Movimiento ocular rápido, por las siglas del nombre en inglés (Rapid eye movement), fase del sueño durante la que suceden los sueños más intensos.

A principios de la década de 1990, otros grupos de rock alternativo como Nirvana vieron a R.E.M. como pioneros del género. Realmente, fueron la banda sonora de una década.

El grupo se separó en 2011 después de haber vendido más de 90 millones de álbumes y convertirse en uno de los grupos musicales más vendidos del mundo.

Out of Time fue el primer álbum de la banda en encabezar las listas de éxitos de Estados Unidos y Reino Unido. El disco vendió alrededor de 17 millones de copias. El sencillo principal del álbum “Losing My Religion” fue un éxito mundial, al igual que el video musical.

La canción habla de la pérdida de conexión con las creencias, ya sea la religión, los valores o la humanidad. Sea cual sea el motivo, siempre hay medidas que se pueden tomar para vencerlo.

Como comentábamos en el comienzo de este pequeño apunte musical, podemos reconocer reminiscencias de la obra pictórica del extraordinario Edward Hopper en el comienzo del vídeo (uno de los máximos representantes del realismo estadounidense) que junto a otras imágenes crean un excepcional audiovisual.
