Hive Open Mic Week 145: Since I Laid My Burdens Down (Traditional, Cover)
A traditional song of my African American ancestors and elders, who had to not only have their personal battles with the problems common to all humanity within themselves, but also labored under cruel bondage from 1619 to 1865 and then from 1877 to 1965 under the oppression of Jim Crow laws. FINALLY, full freedom came ... this song indicates the joy and to Whom the glory belongs for being able to lay the burdens of sin and oppression down and find freedom and peace! This song dates from roughly the same time period as "Take Me To the Water" from last week, somewhere between 1880 and 1920.
