Three-Tune Tuesday: Horace Silver at Work, Live!

avatar

It's a black-and-white, silvery-rainy type of day in San Francisco -- what better day to enjoy some tunes from Horace Silver!

"Senor Blues" is one of the most amazing pieces of music I have ever heard, and this is the most amazing live rendition -- so dark, so bright, so rhythmic!

Often I think of the need to look with cool eyes and stay calm and keep moving in a stormy world -- this piece speaks to me on that level -- I also hear the beginning of the theme of "Sesame Street" suggested here! Listen for all the little things quoted in that piano solo -- you will hear other jazz greats acknowledged!

I was introduced to this piece a long time ago by Stephanie Woodford, a young jazz-pop musician who shall have her own day here soon enough in Three Tune Tuesday ... and it is a special treat to hear Horace Silver giving homage to his own father, live! So much emotion here, so masterfully and manfully handled ...
