Street Music and Jazz

Do You Know Where Jazz Originated From?

Brothels in New Orleans used to be legal.. Random people with instruments would show up and start playing music for the gentlemen who were waiting on their "lady friends"..

Back in the day, these lady friends didn’t have the ability to shower regularly so they picked jasmine flowers and made perfume out of it. Hence forth being called the Jasmine Girls.

They also called those random musicians the Jasmine guys, which was shortened to Jazz Man.. and today just Jazz Music.

So on my random adventures in the heart of the French Quarter, there is a crossroad where there is a place called Rousse's Market. This was not the first time seeing street performers at thia corner and many set up here.

It was slightly sprinkling with rain. I was lucky enough to have a great spot across the one way one lane street to capture such an amazing performance by these musicians.

If you ever visit New Orleans, I highly recommend stopping and listening to whoever is playing at the corner.

Each of those photos is amazing! I love how the musical culture of the city is reflected. The photo of the solo instrument is visual poetry.

Excellent photos of those street musicians, informal, that take us back to the mundane origin of jazz, which you relate well in your brief text. Thank you and best regards, @deadgrlsuppastar.
