When K-Pop Found Its Way Into My Everyday Life

I am not a fan of pop music and never planned to be someone who listens to K-pop. It just happened one quiet evening when I was scrolling on my phone after a long day. I clicked a song, and before I knew it, the beat had entered my head and refused to go. The song was fresh, the voice was clean, and the music video was full of colors and emotions, it felt real, not forced. That night, I fell for listening again and again, not because I wanted to, but because my heart was calm while listening.

Growing up, I remember what mama always taught me to be careful of what I allow into my mind. My father used to say, “Music can build you or scatter you.” At first, I didn’t understand that line. But as I watched this K-pop music video, I saw discipline, teamwork, and respect which their utmost value. The dancers moved like one body, nobody trying to outshine the other. That alone reminded me of the way my mother taught us to do chores together at home, everyone playing their part.

One day, that same artist released a new song, and everywhere online people were talking about it. I watched the video early in the morning before work. The lyrics talked about working hard, failing, standing up again. I smiled because it sounded like my parents’ voice in another language. Even though I don’t understand Korean fully, the feeling was clear. Sometimes, you don’t need translation to understand effort and pain.

Later, I tried joining a small dance challenge. Me? Dancing? I laughed at myself. My body was stiff, and my steps were always late. But I remembered how my parents never laughed when I failed as a child. They encouraged me to try again. So I kept practicing, sweating in my small room, making mistakes, missing steps, but enjoying myself.

What K-pop taught me is not just music or dance. It taught me patience. Those artists didn’t wake up famous. Someone trained them, corrected them, shouted at them, and still believed in them. That is parenting in another form.

Now, when I listen to my favorite artist’s song, it feels like a break from stress, but also a reminder. Hard work shows. Respect matters. And no matter where you are from, values sound the same in every language, even when sung with a different accent.
