My review of new Apocalyptica & Epica (Simons) song "Rise Again"
Hi guys, tonight as I was watching an Apocalyptica new music video which was a feat with Epica. it becomes interesting to me and I decided to share a review of this song with you, my friends.
The video starts with the sounds of nature, which reminds me of a trip that I had it lately. as we were in a similar atmosphere like the one in this video I can feel the colors and lights of this video which makes you feel that you were awake from the late night till the next morning to see the sunrise.
the music video shows metaphoric scenes and the meaning of it is that in any situation you should stand up, and there can be some people who will support you in life and take your hands. so you should never give up.
I like to point out some of the exciting things that I have heard in this music. well, everybody knows how perfectly the Apocalyptica perform and write their songs, so there is no doubt that we should expect a piece of great music, so I start with the things that catch my ear. I liked the way that they were playing staccato and long sustain notes along on their violins and playing mid and high notes on their instruments which were full of emotions. then there we have Epica which it's a powerful symphonic metal band and when Simone Simons starts singing it adds a beautiful layer to the music with her beautiful voice. at the beginning of the song, I like how they kept us waiting for the chorus and for the climax of the song, cause as usual the listener is waiting for the climax of the song after the verse and bridge and also pre-chorus, but in this music, we can see that they handle it so well and created a beautiful structure of music and even when the song goes to its first chorus, all the instruments such as drums and etc are not performing in that section.
in the chorus section, I like how they freely choose their chords and the way she sings is like classical music which it has an unexpected feeling in the structure of its chords.
the mood and the samples of drums and mix of the music make me feel that there is some influence from electronic music (because of the pads) and hip hop (hi-hats) music in this track.
the piano arpeggio in the background adds a nice layer of sound which is not easily noticeable. in the middle of the song, there is a special drums performance that mixed slow and fast fills together which drops to the chorus section so nicely. and the rhythm of the drums is like army drums which it's also one of my favorites. I should also mention how powerfully Simons sings especially in the fills parts along with other instruments. close to the end of the song the music goes more into the Hard Rock and metal music style and with the next drop everything slowly stops with a Cello sustain notes and one cello performs an arpeggio staccato along with Simons's vocal.
I love Cello and especially Ancient music, I want to add that the ending piece after their full song was also special, this also reminds me of how Rammstein lately ends their music with a beautiful piece of classical music at the end of their songs. this one was also so heavy and full of ancient feelings in its melodies.
have a good day and night, my friends!
Peace & Love!
I do have a thing for cellos and was listening to Apocalyptica just the other day. I hadn't heard this one, so thanks for sharing it. The singer is amazing.
It's cool my friend. My pleasure. 🙂 It makes me feel good when I see these bands continue on their way and make new songs. Though this was the first time I was focusing on Simons vocals too. I think I will write another post about her other songs too in another time 🙂
