Oh no, what I have I done?

So I thought I'd experiment a bit with sharing my music via IPFS, the decentralised file sharing system often used for NFTs.

My first attempt to sign up with NFT.Storage led to an infinite MagicLink-->Login-->MagicLink loop. So I looked around and found a site called Web3.Storage that offers a similar service, and uploaded my test song.

Here is a recording of Y Tu Que Has Hecho made by me, with Marco Marconi on piano, in November 2022.

Following the above instructions from @blocktunes, I have tried to embed it in this post using the audio tag.

Once uploaded, the file is permanently and publicly online, and a string called a CID is shown, but no URL. Clicking the CID takes you to a URL in a browser, which I have copied and pasted here.

It doesn't seem to have worked. The audio player shows up but with a duration of 0:00.

Tips, anyone?

I've not used that method to get music online. Maybe others will have ideas to fix it.

Right now, it looks like sharing IPFS links works fine, but the audio controls do not on Hive. So yeah, our bad and will modify the original post.

Hmm... Yeah this is weird. It works on posts on our main site, but doesn't seem to show on Hive. Could be something having to do with the HTML capabilities of Hive. It has worked in the past so that's why we published the post... Something with the last hard fork might have changed things up...I am seeing the controls on Peakd.com and getting same results on a test post, and not even seeing it through the BlockTunes front end...Strangs... But yes, you can certainly share the IPFS link using Hive which works and is a decentralized way to share your music. You did it right.

Many thanks for the feedback. I may wait for embedded audio to become possible before I start using it regularly. It doesn't really look that great, and YouTube is still the better option for me right now, I think.

You should check out 3speak.tv so you are still posting to Hive and IPfS using videos same as you would for YouTube

Hhmm tricky one, not sure how to resolve. A great idea though, would be uploading to cryptoradio.fm then you can get airtime across the world!

That looks great, but there are licences attached to a lot of the music I play, which is why I usually use YouTube these days, because it has the licensing side of things covered.

The joys of the music industry, why make things easy for artists when they can make it difficult! Well, if you have any licence free sounds, feel free to drop them to CRFM and get some more airtime!

I’ll look into this a bit I’ve tried NFT storage and it worked. I then posted my link to a comment and likewise, same outcome. Kind of works though and saves having to use soundcloud.
