Why Everyone's Chasing a Hit Song in the Digital Age
This week, I found myself listening to a lot of bbno$ songs, almost all the time, hahaha. I didn’t even know about him until I heard Edamame, his trending song right now. The song already has over 500 million streams on Spotify, and I can understand why it went viral. The beat and the lyrics have made me listen to it many times already, and I’m still not tired of it.
It’s the kind of song that keeps me awake during the dull hours of the day when I feel sleepy, LOL. Even the music video is super playful, so I’d definitely recommend checking it out on YouTube. It’s both funny and entertaining.
While I was browsing YouTube Shorts, I stumbled upon a short clip from a podcast featuring bbno$ as a guest. In the clip, he was asked how much he makes per day from his song Edamame. I was curious about that too, although I had never really put in the effort to look it up. So it was a cool surprise to hear him actually answer.

He explained that if a song like his reaches over 500 million streams and hits number one on international radio, it could generate around 2 to 3 million dollars per week. That breaks down to approximately $285,000 to $428,000 per day—which is a lot of money.
No wonder so many people are trying their luck in the music world and aiming to go viral. It can be a life-changing experience. I’ve also noticed the same trend on TikTok, where users promote their own songs by using them in their videos. It’s a smart way to market music and gain popularity.
Going viral nowadays opens up opportunities for artists to get their names out there and be remembered by the masses. In a way, social media culture is helping ordinary people become celebrities without needing middlemen, who often get rich simply for discovering artists and handling their marketing.
These days, the world is more open to music regardless of who the artist is. If people like the song, they like it, and everyone is happy. For some artists, just being heard by others is all they really want.
The music industry is evolving, and social media has become a powerful tool for aspiring artists to break through. With creativity, persistence, and a bit of luck, anyone can find their audience. Who knows? The next viral hit could come from someone just like you.

Didn´t know about him and sounds awesome! Thanks for showing this!!
Well the other side is, that you have to work years and years as a musician to get to a point where you get a few hundred dollars per months... I know what I am talking about. :D
That’s very true... success in music is rarely overnight. Respect to you and all musicians who grind for years behind the scenes. Your passion is what keeps the industry alive. 🎧💪
Yeah for most of us it´s hard work for years. And a little bit of luck, to get the right contact, etc.
Thank you so much! =)
This is interesting, never heard about them before. Will check it out during my free time.
Nice! Hope you enjoy the track when you get the chance. It’s catchy and a bit quirky... definitely worth a listen. 😄
That's interesting, but the figures seem exaggerated to me. How much do the others he mentions, such as the radios and streaming services, get?
I read somewhere that over 230,000 songs are released per day, a figure for 2023; this year, it's probably even higher. There are a lot of costs involved in all this production, probably included in what he mentioned. If they are not, it is more than he is talking about.
Otherwise, the video is interesting, a kind of multicultural mix, and the text is intriguing.
Great points! There’s definitely more behind the numbers... distribution cuts, marketing costs, etc. Still, it’s fascinating how the business side shapes music today.
Glad you found the video intriguing!

I must be getting old. I've not heard this viral song at all. But good for these new artistes I guess? Youtube and Spotify has really opened the doors for everyone, unlike the past where they were at the mercy of record studios.
Totally get that! The music scene moves fast these days. And yes, platforms like YouTube and Spotify really changed the game for artists big and small. 🎶
