Breaking Out of the 300-View Jail

I usually share updates about my TikTok journey on Saturdays, but I want to make an exception this week because I feel like I’ve made substantial progress.

In the past, I often talked about waiting for that “viral moment” — when one of my posts would finally break out of what people call the "200–300 views jail." Typically, my videos get around 100 to 200 views, and occasionally they reach close to 300. Many TikTok users experience this same pattern, hence the term. My account is one of them. And while I appreciate that a few hundred people are seeing my content, I haven’t been able to grow beyond that audience size.

To change that, I set a goal to improve and started researching ways to grow. Most of the advice revolves around understanding how the algorithm works — and honestly, it’s pretty exciting. There is a system that boosts trendy videos, but it all depends on how the first 100 to 300 viewers react. Their engagement determines whether your video gets pushed to a wider audience or gets lost in the vast sea of content.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been experimenting with the types of videos I post. I’ve played around with different topics and stayed consistent with updating my profile stories. It seems that two of my TikTok videos have finally gained the traction needed to reach a wider audience — and as of writing this, their viewership is still growing.

It’s amazing to see that one of my videos has already reached over 28,000 views! And thanks to these viral posts, my analytics have gone wild — LOL.

What I’m really looking forward to now is reaching the 100-follower mark, which will unlock more detailed analytics about my audience.

As for my viewers, there’s been a noticeable shift in gender demographics — it’s now almost evenly balanced, unlike before when most of my viewers were women. The most surprising insight, though, is that over 25% of my viewers are aged 55 and above. No wonder my most popular video right now is about the traditional local dish, Duck Rice!

This journey has been both exciting and eye-opening, and I’m grateful for every bit of progress, no matter how small. As I continue to experiment and learn, I’m more motivated than ever to keep improving my content. Thank you for following along — I can't wait to see where this leads next!
