Three Tune Tuesday: Powerful Songs from Les Misérables
Happy Tuesday! Joining the #TTT or #ThreeTuneTuesday🤘🏻, thanks to @ablaze for coming up with this amazing idea.
It was the first week of February when I finally got the chance to see Les Misérables live. Les Misérables: World Tour Spectacular, produced by Cameron Mackintosh, Nick Grace Management, and GMG Productions, is finally in Manila! It’s not the full stage play but more of a concert-style show with an orchestra and a bit of acting and I’m sooo glad I still watched it. Seeing Filipino pride Lea Salonga and Rachelle Ann Go on stage together again, along with Red Concepción and Emily Bautista, felt so special.
I first watched the Les Misérables movie when it came out in 2012 with my friends. We were still in high school then and hadn’t read or studied it yet, but I was instantly hooked because it had everything I love: literature, music, and history all in one.
Watching it live and hearing the songs I’ve loved for years felt surreal. I’ll share more about the whole experience in another blog soon! For now, for this TTT, I’m sharing some of my favorite songs from Les Misérables. Enjoy!
🎶 Lovely Ladies
Waiting for a bite
Waiting for the customers
Who only come at night
Lovely ladies
Ready for the call
Standing up or lying down
Or any way at all
When I first heard this song, I got hooked because the beat is such a bop. But after watching the movie and paying attention to the lyrics, you realize how sad it actually is because of Fantine’s story and what she had to go through. It’s catchy, but also uncomfortable once you understand the meaning behind it.
🎶 I Dreamed a Dream
So different from this hell I'm living,
So different now from what it seemed...
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed...
This song always makes me emotional. It’s all about Fantine’s broken dreams and the life she never imagined she’d end up living. You can really feel her pain in every line. I featured Lea Salonga’s version here because her voice just hits differently.
🎶 Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!
I get goosebumps every time I hear this, especially when it’s sung by the full cast. It’s such a powerful anthem about rebellion, hope, and fighting against oppression. Hearing it live at The Theatre at Solaire gave me chills. I could feel the anger, the courage, and the hope all at once. So powerful.
I still have a lot of Les Miserables songs to feature. Until my next TTT!
