Three Tune Tuesday: OPM Finds This Week

Happy Tuesday! Joining the #TTT or #ThreeTuneTuesday🤘🏻, thanks to @ablaze for coming up with this amazing idea.

I had just finished watching The Residence when I found myself craving more whodunit series. That led me to The After Party but it was only available on Apple TV. So, I subscribed to the Apple bundle that includes both Apple TV and Apple Music.

I've been hearing a lot of good things about Apple Music but I’ve always been loyal to Spotify and YouTube Music mostly because my playlists and liked songs live there and I use YouTube Premium to binge videos on YT ad-free.

But while exploring Apple Music for the first time, I landed on Top 100: Philippines and it was a welcome surprise. A bunch of OPM (Original Pilipino Music) tracks were on there, and I really enjoyed them. I wasn’t super into OPM before, but recently, with so many tracks having great beats and relatable lyrics, I’ve been loving the genre more and more.

Here are three OPM songs from that playlist that I’ve been vibing with lately:

🎶 Multo by Cup of Joe

Hindi na makalaya
Dinadalaw mo 'ko bawat gabi
Wala mang nakikita
Haplos mo'y ramdam pa rin sa dilim
Hindi na na-nanaginip
Hindi na ma-makagising
Pasindi na ng ilaw
Minumulto na 'ko ng damdamin ko
Ng damdamin ko

Multo means ghost in English but not the kind that hides under our beds or lives in our house or somewhere eerie. It’s the kind that lingers: memories, regrets, or old feelings you thought you buried. The lyrics hit deep and the beat builds up in a way that really brings out the emotion. I personally love the Live at The Cozy Cove version because there’s something so soothing about it.

🎶 Dilaw by Maki

This one’s been stuck in my head for months! “Dilaw” means yellow, and the song talks about someone being your light. It reminds me of those moments when someone just radiates this energy, like how people say you’re such a yellow! A college friend once told me I gave off blue energy, and this song captures that same vibe but in a different color 😊 Maki always nails it with catchy tunes and heartfelt lyrics!

🎶 Tibok by Earl Agustin

Even though Tibok has been released for a while, it’s still in the Top 100 and for good reason. It’s such a sweet, catchy song about falling for someone. The word tibok means heartbeat and the whole song feels like a confession of love.

Which of these songs do you vibe with the most? Or have you discovered other OPM tracks lately that you’d recommend?

Loved these tunes?

Have you heard of Denise Julia? At first I thought she was American R&B singer but apparently she's from PH. I also heard Dilaw in one of random playlist on my spotify alongside Denise Julia too

Yes! I listen to her songs too! At first I thought it was Ariana Grande when I first heard her 😂 You're definitely not the only one 😂 Her voice and vibe really give off international R&B feels~

All my 3 faves! Dilaw on repeat for weeks because Maki is Maki. And then Tibok because of PBB and River Joseph. I mean that song is meant for River Joseph alone. And here we are at Multo! My ultimate maoy song. I think I have contributed a million on Spotify because it's literally on loop. 😆

Addendum: There was a time when many, including me, were lamenting on the state of the OPM industry in the Philippines, but here we are. I'm happy with so many OPM songs gaining global recognition. For example, Multo is the first Filipino song to enter the Billboard Global Chart at #181.

It hits different because we all have our ghosts in different forms. This makes the song sort of universal. Chariz

I love Dilaw by Maki, and I've been playing it on repeat back then. Now, I'm not updated with the trending songs anymore. I'll follow your tunes na lang. In Cthings, we trust. 🙏 Labyuuu po. ♥♥♥

I must say that my favorite is the first one, it has a lot of melancholy and its rhythm is engraved in my head and the other one that caught my attention was the second one, it's a little more daring and fun and that's why I liked it.

Such beautiful rock songs you’ve shared with us… I especially loved the second one. Sometimes, it’s just comforting to have people around who bring that warm, yellow kind of energy..
