Three Tune Tuesday: Chappell Roan Once Again

Happy Tuesday! Joining the #TTT or #ThreeTuneTuesdayđ€đ», thanks to @ablaze for coming up with this amazing idea.
I'm back to listening to Chappell Roan these days. Her recent single's the culprit. Iâve been playing it on repeat and I couldn't get it out of my head.
You probably know by now how much I admire Chappell Roan as an artist. Sheâs not just a great singer, sheâs a storyteller. Her songs make you feel something deep. Nostalgia, longing, or that bittersweet ache you canât quite name. I honestly canât wait for the day she comes here to the Philippines for a concert.
Because Iâm fully obsessed with Chappell again, I figured sheâd be perfect for this week's Three Tune Tuesday.
đ¶ The Subway
And it's not over 'til it's over
Oh, 'til it's over
It's just another day
And it's not over 'til it's over
It's never over
Chappell sang this one live last year, but it wasnât officially released until now. Iâve been waiting for it for months and itâs finally here! TikTok has been flooded with clips of it, and some people even misheard âsheâs got a wayâ as âsheâs got a wigâ which still makes me laugh đ€Ł
The Subway hits deep. Itâs about the lingering aftershocks of heartbreak, like when the person is gone, but their presence still haunts you. That moment when âsheâs got a wayâ turns into âshe got awayâ is pure perfection! I looove the build up and sudden turn. Huge shoutout to Dan Nigro (Olivia Rodrigoâs producer) for co-writing this with Chappell.
đ¶ California
No leaves are brown
I miss the seasons in Missouri
My dying town
Thought I'd be cool in California
I'd make you proud
To think I almost had it going
But I let you down
This oneâs from The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess album, and I feel like itâs so underrated. On the surface, itâs about longing for home, but the more you listen, the more you realize itâs also about chasing dreams and feeling like youâve let people down along the way. As someone who studied Literature, I canât help but love how Chappell writes lyrics that open themselves up to multiple interpretations.
đ¶ Picture You
Am I in the frame from your point of view?
Do you feel the same? I'm too scared to say
Half of the things I do when I picture you
Iâve said it before, but this is one of my favorite things about Chappell, her lyrics are layered and open to different meanings. Picture You is the kind of song that makes you think about the person you just canât get out of your head and wonder if theyâre thinking of you too.
Have you listened to these songs yet? Which one hits you the hardest?
Loved these tunes?
