MUSIC AND LYRICS: Frawley's If I Don't Laugh, I'll Cry
I fell in love with this beautiful song the first time I heard it on Instagram, which I was checking through some reels. It sounded so good, even when I didn't know what the lyrics said at first. When I read the lyrics, I realized why I loved it very much—it was a really sad, beautiful piece of art.
If I don't laugh, I'll cry is a song about the healing process of someone's broken heart. You know that point when you think you are doing well with healing, but it just takes mentioning that person's name to make all the pain come back again. You want to cry so bad, but to avoid it, you just laugh instead, to hide everything you are feeling. The title of this song is definitely the best and saddest line in the lyrics, and the emotions poured into singing the whole song just make it so good.
Analyzing the lyrics literally and assuming the story is actually hers and not just a beautiful inspiration, being with someone for two good years and losing them is actually so sad. Then, you were really affected by the breakup and decided to go out with all of your friends in order to get yourself to think about other things for the time being and just generally distract yourself. Then your friends casually brings him or her up, and boom, your plan to distract yourself gets ruined, and you are sad again. You even asked if you missed him or her, and you didn't even know what to say. You just smile and laugh because if you don't do so, you won't be able to hold your tears.

I wonder if there really is anyone who hasn't been through a breakup and the darkness of it. it's a really hard phase. You get fond of someone, your whole world revolves around then, your happiness seems to be largely contributed by them, then you are suddenly cut off from it. I have been there a lot. And to get over it, we try to, you know, laugh, get distracted, get high, find and do things we normally wouldn't do just to distract ourselves from the pain of not being with someone you always used to be with. This song embodies that, and it is also a very soulful one to listen to. Thank you for sharing this with us.
