Three songs related to the Moon for #TTT Week76

Earlier, I was looking for some inspiration to write. I knew it was #TTT, but I didn't have anything musical in mind to share. So I went straight to the HiveBloPoMo calendar, a challenge I'm trying to do. And for today, it was suggested to write something about the moon since today's full moon. And I thought, there it is. Why didn't I think of it before?

Last night, I had to go to the bakery. It was already dusk, and on my way, I was struck by how big and beautiful the moon looked. As I was driving, I couldn't take a picture, but the moon looked amazing.

This morning, I was surprised to receive a text from my son at 7 am. He is in Chicago, and the time difference is two hours these days. So it was 5 am for him. At first, thought he was unwell since he has the flu, and the cold and dryness of the air is not helping him. But it turns out that he was awakened to see the eclipse of the moon. We were not able to see it here, but he in Chicago did.

And searching the internet, I found out that the Blood Moon phenomenon, as total lunar eclipses are also called, will not happen again until March 14, 2025.

So for today's #ttt or #threetunetuesday, I'm going to share three songs related to the moon.

But before we get into the tunes, let me give a little background for those of you who are not familiar with #threetunetuesday. In the words of @ablaze, who started the initiative

The jist is as follows
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #ttt or #threetunetuesday tags that would be great. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the prize - more on that later.

You can find out more at ablaze's post for this Tuesday with his recommendations for this week, the #76.

So the songs I'm going to share today have nothing in common other than the fact that they mention the moon. And my all-time favorite when it comes to the moon is not included, as I already mentioned it, in my post for #ttt week 67, and it is none other than Fly Me To The Moon.

So without further ado, my recommendations for today.

Tune 1 - The Marcels - Blue Moon

The first song is a classic. A song from the 30s that has been covered by artists such as Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, and Billie Holiday among many others. But the version that brought this song to fame was by the doo-wop band The Marcels, released in 1961.

I bet my friend @tengolotodo likes this version, and who knows maybe his neighbor Matilda will even like to sing the chorus of the song.

Ba-bom-a-bom-bom
(Ba-bom-a-bom-bom)
(Ba-bom-a-bom-bom)
(Ba-dang-a-dang-dang)
(Ba-ding-a-dong-ding)

Tune 2 - The Police - Walking on the Moon

The second song is Walking on the Moon by The Police, a band that I think needs no introduction.

Tune 3 - Mecano - Hijo de la Luna

No playlist that mentions the moon would be complete for me without mentioning this song. Hijo de la Luna was one of the Spanish pop band Mecano's biggest hits.

Mecano was one of my favorites from the 80s to the early 90s until the band split up.

This is all for today.

Thank you very much for reading!

Enjoy the music, enjoy life!

Writings are my own unless otherwise stated

I love the Police's Walking on the Moon. Memories of school and uni! Blue Moon - I quite like the Shanana version from Grease.

I must come back and listen to (Hijo de la Luna*

Walking on the Moon also brought me memories of that time in my life.
Hijo de la Luna has fantastic lyrics. A gypsy story, a bit tragic, about a gypsy couple of different ethnicities, who to be able to get married, make a pact with the moon and promise her their first child.

Never heard the Mecano tune before, but its quite cool. I'm quite a Police fan though, and love walking on the moon. The drums on that tune are just awesome - but then again he is one of the best drummers on the planet - nice pick!!!

Hi Nicky!
I'm glad you liked Mecano. The band broke up in the 90s. But she, the singer of the band, has continued her musical career, and her name is Ana Torroja.

Thanks for the info. I'll look her up.

She reminds me a bit of Elizabeth Fraser 👍

I love the theme this week @coquicoin and loving the trio you brought for us. The first two I knew well, and I especially love that song by The police. The last song was new for me and I liked it too.

One song comes straight to mind when I think of the moon and it is this one...

"And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon"
