PRELUDE ON ABERYSTWYTH - HEALEY WILLAN

The hymn tune ABERYSTWYTH is a well-known Welsh melody named after the seaside town of Aberystwyth in West Wales. The tune was composed by Joseph Parry in 1879 and was first published in London in "The English Congregational Hymnal" in 1881. The hymn tune is often used with the hymn "Jesus, Lover of My Soul," which was written by Charles Wesley in 1740. Healey Willan wrote many hymn preludes and this one is so beautiful and melancholic—suitable for the penitential season of Lent.
