How Music Reflects and Shapes Social Trends and Values
For decades, music have always find a way of transforming and changing our lives around. Starting from the 1880s down to 1990s and even 2000s. The fact that music has a way of transferring so much value and helps in creating changes in our society that might look impossible at the first instance.
As a Nigerian who have spent years observing the trend of music, I can say I am so confident of what music can do. For long, music have been a transformative tools. We have different genre of music in the Nigeria society ranging from the gospel, the afro beat and many more. Music when it comes to Nigeria as a country have a way of creating the connection between the cultural and the political view of the country together.
From the days of Fela kuti to even the modern days type of music like Burna Boy, Davido, WizKid and many more. Since the tradition of music, it has always have a positive state in the society. I have seen songs that helps to change the state of the society around, I have seen music helping to connecting youths together irrespective of our backgrounds and tribes.
Music have always been a source of passive of social values whether the positive ones or the negative ones. There was a time, the type of value that was passed across are negative social values due to musicians like Naira Marley and others music artists. And there are also others musicians that have really helped to pass a strong and positive value to the society. Music have a way of helping the young ones to have a platform and not only platforms but helping to express themselves.
Take for example in my country, due to some certain kind of music, there are some certain kind of slags that have developed, examples like Sapa, like E Choke and many more. All of these slags are medium in which youth express themselves and all of these originate just from a music.
Music is a powerful tool that has the ability to create transformational changes beyond we can ever imagine of. Artiste in the music industry in certain period of the nation has risen to help defend the state of the nation and have helped to propagate the view of the nation beyond what it is right now. I personally believe that in years to come, it will continue to get better and better and we will continue to see more of the use case of music both in our society and in our country at large.
Certainly, music is a tool that attracts attention and has the capacity to generate substantial, unimaginable changes.
