Market Music

Barring other obligations, most of my Saturday mornings during the warmer months are spent at the South End Community Market in Iroquois Park. The market is a fun mix of folks selling fresh produce, baked goods, sweets and treats, along with handicrafts and the occasional haircut. More often than not, there's also live music.

One vender recently made the observation that I was there more often than some of the vendors, which tends to make it more challenging to find shots that don't feel like repeats. The musical performances are a different story, with a rotating cast of characters kicking out the jams.

If my memory isn't misfiring, this is Eddie. He caught me enjoying his rendition of a Grateful Dead tune and offered to play my favorite cheating-at-poker tune. Under such circumstances it was almost obligatory to snap some shots and throw a few bucks in his guitar case.

Shot a couple concerts last year for the local weekly paper, ever since I've been trying to practice with any live music that crosses my path.

Photos are all from various market days this year. Occurred to me as I was editing these that I see more live music in the morning at the market than I do at night in bars, which seems very strange to me. Also reminded me of a project that needs doing on my favorite local band. That's for another night. Where do you catch your live music fix?
