PlayArt, a music fest!

In Cuba there is the fact that socially it is not at all approved to have a cultural taste different from the one bequeathed to us by the triumph of the revolution in 1959. Being, in addition, an underdeveloped country, technological (and therefore cultural) advances have come at a rapid pace, making it more difficult to assimilate global interests.

Something like that happens with electronic music. As it does not fit the tastes of the majority, it ends up being marginalized many times. However, we young people cannot keep our hands crossed, much less young artists. For this reason, through the Hermanos Saíz Association in Santiago de Cuba, the electronic music festival PlayArt was created, which consists of having 24 uninterrupted hours of electronic music on some beach in the city during the summer period.

Thus, the days of August 24 and 25 of this 2024 were the ones selected to take this demonstration to the sand of Caletón Blanco Beach. I had the opportunity to participate as the organizing committee of this event, which allowed me not to miss any details of the festival, which this year celebrated its eleventh anniversary.

We arrived at 9:30 a.m. on that glorious Saturday and already at 10 a.m. electronic music was breaking to flood the beach. We had about 6 DJs who took turns to cover all the time the festival required. I took the opportunity to swim on the beach, sunbathe, take lots of photos, play volleyball, and of course, dance.

Something that I really liked was that at night there was also a space for rap, an artistic line that also has little shine in our country unfortunately. The guest rappers performed several of their songs and even had a little freestyle battle.

Sunrise on the beach, with music and friends, was a wonderful thing and it is an experience that I will not miss next year. I hope you liked this post.

Hello my friend! What a great festival you show us. I congratulate you, and I definitely agree with you, musical changes and their acceptance takes time. First they will experience some rejection, until you find some people like you and little by little a group is formed and can expand. It must be beautiful to live this kind of events on the beach. I loved reading you. Regards

Thank you very much for showing this type of music that is made in Cuba that goes beyond the so-called salsa.
It's a very interesting music, rock, pop or Reguetón.
As for the music I consider that there is no good or bad music, but good and bad musicians and this type of music, although not very popular in the world if it has good quality and their followers are passionate about music. Happy day to you. Cheers and greetings.
