Nothing Compares 2 U
It is with great sadness that I have read of the death of the Irish singer Sinead O'Connor, famous among other things for the single Nothing Compares 2 U, a song written by Price that she was able to masterfully interpret and that in the distant 1990 earned her the first place in the world music charts.
I remember well when I first heard the song, a few years after its publication, and I was immediately enraptured by that veil of sadness that her voice didn't hide. A sadness and a malaise that have characterized her music and part of her life, the long struggle with depression and the death of her son Shane, who committed suicide at the age of 17, the latest tragedy in a life studded with misfortunes since her very early childhood . A pain too great to bear.
** Sinead O'Connor ** she leaves us at the premature age of 56, even though she has long been away from the music world. In the wake of her popularity, she takes part in the mammoth concert The Wall-Live in Berlin organized by Roger Waters on September 10, 1990, performing on the notes of the song Mother together with The Band. An incredible interpretation that enchanted Water himself, as well as the tens of thousands of spectators present at the concert.
I remember my father also had an LP of his album I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got, from which the single Nothing Compares 2 U is taken. A jewel to keep in my collection of albums that marked my childhood . An incredible voice leaves us forever, another memory from my childhood fading away. Rest in peace Sinead O'Connor... wherever you are.
This is really sad. I liked her, she stood out back then and Nothing Compares to You will always be on my music list as one of the greats. 56 is an early age to go and she was so talented, we've lost a great deal 😥
