Celebrating Vishu & Ending the Day with Some Music

Greetings Everyone Hope you had a Great Weekend . !

I had great time celebrating Vishu With my Family this weekend .
Whats Vishu , you May Ask ?

Well its a spring festival celebrated by the people of Kerala and other parts of South India .There is a lot of history behind this festival . People start their day with the site of the auspicious ritual arrangement, called ‘Vishu Kani,’ set by the elders of the House . In my childhood my mom used to cover my eyes and and takes my to the room where we keep the ' Vishu Kani ' So that this was the first thing i see in the morning .
It was always a fond memory that i had during my childhood .

When i woke up today ,and went to the hall of our house , this is the Vishu Kani that my parents had prepared.

It is believed that seeing Vishu Kani as the first thing of the day can bring prosperity and wealth for the entire year.
Then other another ritual that we follow on Vishu is Vishukkaineetam – the practice of gifting money to younger family members .
When i was kid i used get a lot money from my elders during this day . Now since i was older it was my turn to gift the young ones .
Then Me and my cousin went to a couple of our relatives places and gifted some money to nieces and nephews . It was a full circle moment for me .. hahaha ... And in return the elders of the household also gift me money in return .

After that its was noon time . We got together at a relatives place and had traditional south indian lunch .

This is again another custom . We don't use tables or Chair on this day . We have it together on the floor on the Banana \ Plantain Leaf . And some households also have alcohol and other fermented drinks with it . I had some Feni ( a spiritous liquor type originating in Goa made by fermenting cashew fruit . ) Damn It was really strong too . While my elders had some whisky , we enjoyed the meal with some really good conversations and laughter .

After the meal i had some payasam . ( A south indian Sweet made with vermicelli , Milk , Ghee & Sugar ) . I had a little to much food had to take a small nap to recover from the food and the alcohol 🤣🤣 .

Then came the evening . Usually we used to burst some fireworks in the night to celebrate . But this time we decided not to thinking of all pollution it might create .
And my friend had called me to play a piano for a gig with him with short notice . So i had to attend that .

We practiced couple songs at my home and went straight to the Gig . It was for a corporate event and we just to play some filler music while people where engaging with other business meet and dinner .

All in all it was a good day filled with fun and joy and some music in the End .
