Rekindling the Passion

There's always something that brings out the best in us. Something that triggers us to do that which we love the most. For some it could be an art, painting, or a motivational quote. But For me, it's always been about music — any genre that suits my musical taste.

Most writers as myself submit to the power of music and it's been found that Inspiration mostly comes from the things around us— music being a perfect example of that.

Music is a feeling and yes, it's the one thing that keeps my ink flowing. It enhances my dead thoughts and fuels my passion. Ever lost the will to keep pushing? Ever lost the desire to continue doing that one thing that makes you happy? Well, if you haven't, I have been a victim severally and music has been my saving grace in most of the cases. Not religion, not popular quotes; just music!

Today, I was out of ideas and Inspiration to come up with a write up, but then I came across a Song by Alec Benjamin "the way you felt" and I was immediately bombarded with ideas on topics to write... Poets can testify to this.

I don't know why, but there was something quite different about the song. It wasn't the lyrics - I have heard it so many times, It wasn't his voice - it wasn't new to me. It kind of seemed as though the song could sense my mood and detect my lack of motivation to come up with a topic... Then decided to gorge my mind with ideas. Perhaps music can also sense emotions, who knows?

There's something inexplicable about music. Its boundaries can't be totally explored neither can it's mechanism of therapy be understood.

There was a certain day I lost the desire to do anything, to even get up from bed. Or rather, should I just say: I fell into depression.

"Why have you been on that bed all day" Steve, my caring roommate, asked.

"Nothing, just need to stay alone"

"Okay but no go commit suicide oo" Steve playfully replied in pidgin English. In English, this translated to "Alright, but please don't commit suicide."

It wasn't long after, I played a song by Ruth B "dandelions" and few minutes into listening, I felt this rush of life and strength overshadow me.

Sometimes, I do wonder how songs possess the power to do that. Perhaps music has a mind of its own, Like little children parading around their parents when they sense sadness and despair in their parents.

It might not necessarily be all about music for everyone. All Some people need is just a painting visualization and boom! That spark is ignited. A word of encouragement might be all some need to become up and doing.

Isn't it crazy how one minute you're on the edge of breaking into pieces then the next minute, you're on the brighter side of life. I guess this is just a tip of the iceberg to what music can actually do. Yeah, feel free to say it's a life saver

Perhaps music is a whole lot closer to us than we think. Perhaps it's way more realistic than abstract; more humane than inhumane.

Music is food to the soul. Music is medicinal. I have lost count of how many times music got me up from fatigue and other troubles. The power of music can't be expressed in a statement. Lovely!!!
