Roads: An Inspired Photo-journey by The Misfits [ENG/ESP]

I don't know how to explain it in a way that is clear to everyone. The truth is, The Misfits is one of my favorite bands. I simply love it madly. I'm not much of a lover of the darkness, the "b" side of life or the Punk Rock scene. I've always been a girl of mainstream musical tastes. But what can I tell you? It's a weakness. Not at all. I'm proud of them and what they've done in music, art and culture.... Now, why do I explain this in this way? Because as the title says, this post only makes sense if you know, have heard or are interested in hearing the music of these geniuses....

I don't consider myself a great artist, much less a photographer. In fact, I thought long and hard about uploading this to this community. I have seen the works here, and they are simply beautiful. The vast majority of them comply with the elementary rules of visual art. They have been made and published by authors who, most likely, have much more experience and skill than this servant who writes here, but I still want to emphasize how a style, a way of making music and in my case, in my fortune? of appreciating it, makes and marks the difference in my way of making photography.

End of so much context and explanations. Yesterday, it poured in my city in a way that it has not done for decades. In fact, thanks to the same sources in charge of reporting on these issues, it rained (yesterday) what usually should have rained in a month. It was huge, guys... All the roads, sewers and avenues collapsed due to the amount of water that fell on the city. The day after that event, that is, today, yes today, I decided to take advantage of the gloomy, tenuous and extremely cloudy weather to go for a walk.

Call me crazy, but I love it when chaos takes over the routine. I don't like tragedy or conflict. But in a place as boring, immovable and where nothing happens as the place where I live, that at least the weather changes and life gives way to new perspectives and even a new way of appreciating art, for me, is wonderful. So I decided to go out with my headphones, a perfect playlist of music by The Misfits and set off on my way. Which went nowhere, clearly. But which in my opinion offered me the best backlights I have ever witnessed photographing.

The photos that you are able to appreciate or despise, who knows, are the product of the Camino that leads from the entrance of my urbanization to my house. As I have already told you, I had no intention of anything. We were just, chaotic nature, my boring walk and the best Punk Rock ever written, nothing more. Sometimes, as trite as it reads, the most ideal and out-of-the-ordinary thing happens to you when you least expect it. From my perspective, that's exactly what happened to me today. In fact, I wasn't even planning on uploading content today on HIVE, but this made it inevitable.

You have no idea how hard it was for me to find this community.... As they are black and white photographs, with low light (intentionally) I didn't feel safe in publishing them in a niche specialized in that art... Also, I didn't want to relegate the influence of The Misfits' music in all of this. Which, for better or worse, filled me with joy, playfulness and a nihilistic but appealing sense of the everyday.... One day the sky seems to come crashing down, the next, I take advantage of what nature has gifted me and let myself go through a simple hike.

Even my daughter, upon seeing the pictures, immediately said to me "Mommy, the pictures look like the ugly people music you hear" Hahaha! Kids know and tell the truth. Anyway, guys and girls, this post tries to show in a not so complicated way the uniqueness that is in every single moment of our lives. And how, without prior planning, the best events (at least, for me) seem to converge in the same direction at certain moments Coincidence, causality, both, neither? No idea. I love The Misfits, I love trying to photograph; and this is the end result. Chaos, lubricity and a Road...

Ugly People Music

I love that expression and honestly, I love Ugly People music, not punk as much as others but I agree Misfits is another story.
I do love the darkness in music, but I also very much appreciate the light and the battle between both...or no battle and just chaos.

Keep an eye out for my post tomorrow 🤫

Hahaha, the part where your daughter attests to the fact that the shots looked like the music you love listening to caught me... She knows her Mummy well.

Well, I am happy you finally decided to share them here and you did not allow the fact that you think you are merely a servant of music to stop you. I loved reading through and seeing those unplanned shots you took.

Thanks to the eventful weather, we have something to appreciate in the community. Thank you for sharing 😍

Wow! What a lovely and encouraging words of yours. Thank you for reading my post and for taking the moment to share your kind opinion. Seriously, I thought no one would like this writing and post, and it seems I was wrong. Once agains, all because of The Misfits.

The Misfits are unique. There was a time when darkness was one thing and punk rock another... An then, Misfits changed everything for good. Amazing pics, for real.

Am glad you made some extra effort searching for an appropriate community for your post! You came to the right place. So true that in unplanned moments, spontaneous acts, we can find harmony, but also pleasure and sometimes even happiness. Unexpectedly. Those moments, minutes hours, days, are those that I in general most cherish and remember and I hope for all of us, the same.
